Sokcho bakery café for potato bread before 2pm: Bultan Gamja Bread
In short
Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread Main Store is a bakery café in a container-style building on Haksapyeong-gil in Sokcho, Gangwon. The order here was bultan gamja bread (squid-ink "charred" potato bread), squid jjondeugi, an iced Americano and an organic lemon soda, and the potato bread was chewy on the outside and soft like steamed potato inside. Come before 2pm, because the potato bread at Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread often sells out by then.

Today I visited a must-try Sokcho bakery! The dessert everyone talks about — 'bultan gamja bread' (charred-looking potato bread).
What should I eat in Sokcho?!

Inside the container building: potato characters and the café's mood
I arrived at the potato bread main store, a top Sokcho bakery. The container-style building and the hip artwork caught my eye from far away, haha.

And this cute round character 😍 I totally fell for it, haha. Isn't it so adorable?!

Here's the entrance to Bultan Gamja Bread!

There's another cute bultan gamja bread character right at the entrance! It's the kind of cute that everyone, young or old, would love.

There are little bultan gamja bread stickers here and there too 🥔 Oh! And the squid jjondeugi friend is here as well 🦑

The interior of Bultan Gamja Bread has a cozy vibe — it seems like a nice place to relax after buying your bread ✨

Menu at Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread: bottled drinks and squid jjondeugi
The menu at Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread includes potato bread, coffee and tea, bottled drinks, squid jjondeugi, and orange (rice puff snacks). Sokcho BTS, haha! Hearing the potato bread is freshly baked that same day made me even more excited. ⬇️ There's also a drink menu below.

Besides coffee and tea, there's this wide variety of bottled drinks.

Squid jjondeugi is also sold in packs of 12. I got curious about this unusual menu item. They also sell orande (rice puffs).

Sokcho's popular bakery 'Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread' has separate snack and gift versions, and buying 3 boxes gets you a discount.

Curious about the bultan gamja bread? The black exterior is actually from squid ink. It's not actually burnt, haha.

What bultan gamja bread tastes like: chewy outside, steamed potato inside
I ordered bultan gamja bread, squid jjondeugi, iced Americano, and organic lemon soda. 💫If you want to buy the potato bread, I'd recommend going before 2pm.

Opening the box, there are 4 individually wrapped bultan gamja breads inside! Each wrapper also has a cute character drawn on it, so it seems great for sharing with people around you 💡

Let me open one up, haha. Here's the bultan gamja bread! Once opened, it's not as black as I expected! The round, cute shape and soft, squishy texture made me want to keep pressing it 😝
And judging by how plump it looked, it seemed packed with potato inside, haha. Taking a bite, the outside was chewy and the inside really tasted like rich, steamed potato!!

Oh wow? This is definitely a healthy taste!! But this bultan gamja bread is so delicious 🫶🏻🫶🏻 It would also make a great gift 🎁
The organic lemon soda had a fizzy, refreshing kick that woke me right up 👀 haha.
Squid jjondeugi in Sokcho: strong squid aroma, mild flavour
Next, I opened up a Sokcho jjondeugi, haha. I was surprised by how strongly the squid smell spread the moment I opened it. But even though the aroma was strong, the taste wasn't too heavy on squid flavor when eating it, so it felt light and clean 😉

It's low in calories so it seems good as a snack, and it would also go well with beer if you like that (I think it would be even tastier grilled).

Buying an extra box of potato bread as a Sokcho souvenir
After trying the popular Sokcho bakery 'Bultan Gamja Bread,' I felt it was both healthy and delicious 👍🏻 So I bought an extra box of bultan gamja bread!! I gave it to my parents 💡

If you're wondering "what should I eat as a snack in Sokcho?" or "what should I bring back as a gift?", I'd recommend 'Bultan Gamja Bread,' Sokcho's popular bakery, without any hesitation 👍🏻
