Eel pot rice with ginger and wasabi in Bucheon: Gochang Pungcheon Eel
In short
Gochang Pungcheon Eel (고창풍천장어) is a grilled eel and eel pot rice restaurant in the back alley behind Save Zone, near Exit 8 of Sangdong Station in Bucheon. The writer booked through Naver, ordered eel pot rice for 2 (44,000 won), and enjoyed everything from the crispy fried eel side dish to the tender eel grilled to order and the sweet seasoned rice. The writer had thought Gochang Pungcheon Eel was only good at grilled eel, but its eel pot rice is just as good and worth coming back for.

Interior, private rooms and reservations
The inside has clean wood-tone decor and lots of seats, good enough for a family gathering or even a big company dinner.

There are rooms in the back too, so it looks easy to reserve one. *Reservations are available through Naver*

I visited with a Naver reservation, and I was grateful they'd set everything up nicely in advance. It seems they put out a sign like this for reservations.

They served fried eel as a side dish, and it was so crispy, perfect as an appetizer. I'd finished it all before the food even arrived, haha.

What are the side dishes like?
The side dishes were clean and simple, so it looked like a good place to bring your parents.

I ordered pot rice, so they gave me sides that go with it. I especially liked that they gave me plenty of shredded ginger.
Eel pot rice for 2: how did it taste?
I ordered the eel pot rice for 2, ₩44,000.

Here's the eel pot rice photographed with the side dishes. Since it's an eel restaurant, they grill the eel themselves and make the rice to order, so it came out piping hot, which I loved.

There's clearly a reason this place has run for so long on eel alone. It's seriously good. It seemed like they make the sauce themselves and brush it on.

The eel was so, so good. It was really tender, with lots of meat, and I think being grilled to order made it the best. The rice was fluffy and delicious too.

The rice itself was all seasoned. I honestly worried it would be too salty, but it wasn't very salty, just pleasantly sweet, and eaten together with the eel the flavor really came up. So good.
Eating eel pot rice with ginger and wasabi
The staff told us the eel pot rice tastes much better with shredded ginger and wasabi on top.

They were right. Eaten together like that, it was really delicious.

Cleaned the bowl again today! I thought they were only good at eel, but the pot rice is great too, so this is a place I want to come back to.
