Yeongdeungpo Korean BBQ, staff-grilled pork galbi: Choryang Saenggalbi

In short

Choryang Saenggalbi is a pork and fresh-rib Korean BBQ restaurant 96 meters from Exit 4 of Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station in Seoul. Two diners arrived at 3pm and ordered two servings of marinated pork galbi with brisket doenjang sul-bap (rice in soybean stew), and since the staff grilled everything over charcoal at the table, all they had to do was eat — then add a third serving of ribs. The marinade is not overly sweet and the free side dishes are generous, so Choryang Saenggalbi is worth noting if you want a clean, easy pork galbi meal near the station.

Choryang Saenggalbi, a beloved BBQ spot near Yeongdeungpo City Hall Station

I was looking for a clean, no-fuss BBQ spot near Yeongdeungpo City Hall Station and ended up at Choryang Saenggalbi. It's technically a fresh rib specialist, but I love marinated pork galbi so I mostly ordered around that.

Bottom line up front: the meat, the side dishes, the rice dish — everything was really, really, really satisfying. The staff grilled the meat for us so we could just relax and eat, and the portions were generous enough that we left completely full. Pork galbi place from now on: this is it, haha.

Choryang Saenggalbi sits on the first floor right near Exit 4 of Yeongdeungpo City Hall Station, so it's super convenient for getting around and for making plans. It's a BBQ place but you can tell just from the outside how clean it looks, right?

Overall, Choryang Saenggalbi felt clean and orderly rather than having that chaotic BBQ-joint vibe. The tables were tidy and the basic setup came out quickly, so my first impression was great.

What Choryang Saenggalbi feels like at 3pm

I went on purpose during a quiet time, around 3pm. The interior looked so clean and organized it was like they'd opened that very day.

There's a restroom inside the restaurant too, so it's really convenient and clean to use. Everything, from the chairs to the vents, felt perfectly squared away and aligned. The owner must be an extremely tidy person, haha.

The menu has set combos, pork grilled by cut, and meal options like fried rice and cold noodles. Honestly, with a lineup like that... ugh, it's so hard to choose. Everything looks delicious.

On top of that, they even offer free corkage. The owner here really has top-tier service mindset!

Ordering for two: marinated pork galbi and brisket doenjang sul-bap

Two servings of ordered marinated pork galbi

There were two of us, so we started with two servings of marinated pork galbi and one brisket doenjang rice. It's known as a fresh rib place, but I personally love marinated galbi, so I went straight for that without hesitation!

The pork galbi's marinade wasn't overly sweet, and you could really taste the meat itself.

Ssamjang, salt, and the special white sauce
Sizzling kimchi jjigae served as a side dish

Side dishes that include a pot of kimchi jjigae

The basic side dishes were so generous, right? Fresh scallion salad, kimchi with scallions, lettuce, perilla leaves for wraps, onion, salted seafood, raw garlic, and even kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) came out.

Freshness is everything for wrap greens and scallion salad — and wow, the vegetables here were as fresh as what you'd get at home. The seasoning brought out the character of each ingredient perfectly, making everything even more appetizing.

And there was the basic ssamjang (dipping sauce) and salt, plus a special sauce the owner apparently developed themselves — it had a bit of a yogurt taste, tangy, a little sweet... hard to explain, but it was so good. (The white sauce.) I usually just dip pork galbi in ssamjang, but this white sauce was a whole new experience! (Owner, please share the recipe...^^)

We didn't even order kimchi jjigae separately — is it really okay for a side dish to come out this sizzling and delicious? Thank you, owner!!

Brisket doenjang rice loaded with brisket

How was the brisket doenjang sul-bap?

Behold the majesty of brisket doenjang rice (된장술밥)! I didn't expect much, thinking it'd just be a regular doenjang stew, but they loaded it with brisket and added cheongyang chili peppers — there was no way it could taste bad with that combination.

It had a deeper, richer, more savory flavor than the typical BBQ-joint doenjang stew, plus a spicy kick — ugh, so good. At first I wondered how we'd finish such a huge portion, but we scraped the bowl clean by the end.

The charcoal finally arrived, and the marinated pork galbi went on the grill. Usually, unless it's a Korean hanwoo beef place, you have to grill it yourself, but here at Choryang Saenggalbi in Dangsan, the staff grilled it for us, so all we had to do was eat at the right timing — genuinely so convenient.

It was also so nice to be able to chat with my companion without the conversation getting interrupted by grilling duties!

Ahh, can you see that mouthwatering color and glossy sheen? It tasted even better than the pork galbi I'd imagined. The meat was moist and tender, and with the special marinade added, it just melted in your mouth. There's so much to praise here — I really want to recommend this place to anyone looking for a great pork galbi spot near Yeongdeungpo City Hall Station.

At first I thought two servings would be plenty, but as we kept eating, I just kept craving more pork galbi. (Honestly, it was enough... but I kept going back for more!) In the end we added one more serving of pork galbi and ate until we were completely stuffed.

The brisket doenjang rice also paired really well with the meat. The savory doenjang flavor combined with the nutty richness of the brisket made it the perfect meal dish!
