Dongdaemun Korean BBQ restaurant: 900g beef at Ilbeonji

In short

Ilbeonji Jeongyuk Sikdang is a Korean barbecue restaurant near Janghanpyeong Station in Dongdaemun, Seoul. We ordered the 900g Small Cow Platter with six beef cuts and kept grilling tender, savory meat. Verdict: a generous, great-value spot I’d happily revisit for a group meal.

Today I visited Ilbeonji Jeongyuk Sikdang (일번지정육식당) near my home at Janghanpyeong Station~! It had been ages since I’d had beef, so I hopped straight on my bike and zoomed over~!! It was such a satisfying dinner: I got completely full on beef that delivered both value and quality!! Would revisit: O!!

A spacious butcher’s restaurant near Janghanpyeong Station

Ilbeonji Jeongyuk Sikdang is just a short walk from Exit 3 of Janghanpyeong Station! The restaurant is huge, so it was easy to find.

The menu clearly lists the weights for the Cow Platter and Small Cow Platter, haha. The Cow Platter is 600g + 600g, for 1.2kg total, while the Small Cow Platter is 450g + 450g, for 900g total!

Spacious dining area with tables
Restaurant interior suitable for group gatherings

Once inside, wide rows of tables stretch out on both sides like this! It was super spacious with loads of tables, so it looked perfect for gatherings. In fact, every table behind us was occupied by groups. There seemed to be family get-togethers and club meetups and all sorts~! Some people even brought a cake and had a birthday party, haha.

Storage for utensils and wet wipes beneath the table

Under the table, there were wet wipes, tissues, spoons, and chopsticks tucked away like this. It was nice not having to ask separately for wet wipes, hehe.

Self-serve side-dish station inside the restaurant

Further inside, there was also a self-serve corner where you could help yourself to side dishes! I eat lots of lettuce, onions, and pa-jeori (seasoned shredded scallions), so the self-serve setup was incredibly handy! They say they buy the vegetables fresh every day through auction at the early-morning market. Freshness itself.

Parking area in front of the restaurant

There’s parking right in front of the restaurant too, so I don’t think anyone driving needs to worry! After your dining time, it’s ₩2,000 per 10 minutes! Pull out right away~!

The menu has such a varied selection. They have pork as well as beef! I want to try the samgyeopsal (pork belly) next time too~!! Just note that there’s a ₩2,000 table-setting fee per person!

The staff set out the side dishes for us right away like this! I was so happy there was corn salad, hehe—I finished it immediately. The doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew) sat in a hole beside the grill, so it kept bubbling away and stayed warm. They’ll refill the broth too!! Before the meat arrived, we gave the scallions a quick mix~! There was onion sauce at every table too, so you can pour on as much as you like!!

An evening of endlessly grilling six cuts of beef

Finally, meat time!~ I didn’t think the two of us could possibly finish 1.2kg, so we ordered the 900g Small Cow Platter. Six types of beef arrived on this huge tray!! The beef was so affordable, yet the quality was amazing—I was genuinely surprised;; And there was so much that I wondered whether we could finish even this, lol. The value is insane.

Six cuts of beef including sirloin and salchisal

The six-cut assortment included sirloin, salchisal (boneless rib cap), tosisal (hanger steak), galbisal (beef short rib), buchaesal (top blade), and woosamgyeop (thin-sliced beef belly). At the start, a staff member even explained what each cut was! They were so kind, haha.

We started by grilling the quick-cooking woosamgyeop right away~!! They told us that adding two or three pieces of woosamgyeop to the doenjang-jjigae makes it even tastier, so of course we put some in right away, haha. The meat cooked crazy fast, so we gobbled it up!!! It was seriously tender, nutty, and delicious...

Doenjang-jjigae with woosamgyeop added

The doenjang-jjigae looked ridiculously good too. It was packed with zucchini, onion, and tofu, making it a total rice thief!! Doenjang-jjigae at a barbecue restaurant is always right!

Grilling up the buchaesal with all our might!!! There were two sets of tongs and scissors, so the two of us kept grilling and eating so nothing burned. No talking, just grill first!!!!!! One, two!

The sirloin pieces were huge... There were two thick chunks, and the amount really was enormous!!! The meat wasn’t tough at all; it was clean-tasting and savory. Dipped in salt: so good~! It was also delicious with the pickled onions...

Partway through, a staff member mixed up the scallions with sesame oil using their own recipe, hahaha. They said this is how they eat the Cow Platter with the scallions... and after trying them, I kind of got it, haha. The staff member’s scallion recipe: good!!!! So tasty.

There was so much of all six cuts that we truly grilled and ate nonstop!! The meat was juicy, not greasy, and the more I chewed, the more beefy flavor came through—it just kept going down so easily!

All those different cuts, grilled beautifully!! Looking at the photos makes me want to eat them again...

Beef lettuce wrap with seasoned scallions

It was so good wrapped with lettuce, scallions, and ssamjang (savory soybean dipping paste)... The side dishes paired well too, and they were perfect for making wraps, hehe. I usually order naengmyeon (cold noodles) or side dishes with barbecue, but here I was so full from the beef alone that I couldn’t even consider it... haha. By the way, they’ll pack up leftover beef for you, so don’t force yourself to eat it all when you’re full like I did—take it home if there’s any left!!! I’m taking mine home next time too, haha.

With six different beef cuts together, each one had a different texture and slightly different savory flavor, making it really fun to enjoy the beef!! Overall, there was no unpleasant smell, and it was juicy and tender! The staff were incredibly kind, there were plenty of tables, and the restaurant was spacious, so I recommend it for group gatherings, haha. With parking and such close access to the station, I thought the location was excellent too. I’d revisit, and it was a delicious restaurant with great value!
