Gyeongju brunch café with mountain-view sofa seats: Cafe Road 100

Cafe Road 100 is a large brunch and bakery café on Bobul-ro near Bulguksa Temple in Gyeongju. After a walk around Bomun Lake, the writer and a friend sat at a second-floor mountain-view sofa seat by the window and had the 16,000 won brunch plate, a 6,500 won white roll and an 8,000 won kiwi juice, with the big parking lot and wide-open views standing out most. For Gyeongju travelers with a car looking for a relaxed brunch stop, Cafe Road 100 is a great fit.

Ulsan shabu-shabu buffet at weekend opening with chili ponzu: Wabom

Wabom Ulsan Mugeo Branch is a shabu-shabu buffet on the 10th floor of Hansol Apple Tower in Nam-gu, Ulsan. The writer's family arrived at weekend opening time and paid 30,900 won per adult for 2 adults. They filled up on sushi, seafood, hot food and dessert, cooking seafood and beef in half-regular, half-spicy broth and dipping them in ponzu sauce loaded with scallions and hot green chili peppers. Verdict: Wabom Ulsan Mugeo Branch, with its spacious dining room and Taehwa River window seats, made a satisfying family meal.

Dong-gu, Ulsan Chinese restaurant: quail egg stone jjajang for 5

Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong (울산대왕암돌짬뽕) is a Chinese restaurant in Ilsanji, Dong-gu, Ulsan, serving jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) and jjajang (black bean noodles) on sizzling stone plates. Five of us, including aunts visiting from Seoul, stopped at Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong for a late lunch after peak hours before a Daewangam Park outing. We ordered a medium stone jjamppong and handmade dontang (crispy sweet-and-sour pork) set for 2 (38,000 won) and a nurungji (scorched rice crust) stone jjajang for 2 (24,000 won). Sizzling stone-plate noodles and crispy dontang made Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong a satisfying family lunch.

Tomb-view café in Gyeongju: 4 desserts to beat the heat, Bonghwangdang

Cafe Bonghwangdang is a tomb-view café on Hwangnidan-gil in Gyeongju, right across the street from Daereungwon, with floor-to-ceiling windows on both floors. Escaping the summer heat with a friend, the writer sat by the window and tried Bonghwang coffee (8,500 won), a matcha parfait (8,500 won), a macadamia fig sumakse (roof-tile) cookie (5,000 won) and a cheesecake set (18,000 won). Cafe Bonghwangdang is a good place to rest with a view of the Daereungwon tombs after a walk along Hwangnidan-gil.
