Yangjae Station pie shop's Premium Mix Pie to go: Hodu Kkakki Brothers

There's a dessert pie spot in Yangjae Station that tastes great and makes a good gift for anyone, young or old, so I went! It's Hodu Kkakki Brothers (호두까끼형제), a handmade pie shop in Dogok-dong. I took out a bunch of different pies, so here comes my review!🥰

Where is Hodu Kkakki Brothers near Yangjae Station, and what are the hours?

Hodu Kkakki Brothers is a 1-minute walk from Yangjae Station Exit 4, at 10 Nambusunhwan-ro 351-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Hours are Mon–Fri 11:00–21:00 (break time 14:30–15:30), Saturday 11:00–20:00 and Sunday 11:00–19:00. There's no parking lot.

Come out of Exit 4, turn into the first alley and keep going straight, and you'll see the entrance on your right, like in the photos below^^

What is the inside of Hodu Kkakki Brothers like?

Open the red entrance door and you'll see the ordering counter at the back.

The showcase had the pies lined up by type, and some of them looked totally new to me, so I got really curious about the taste!

On one side there were pie boxes and boxes of walnuts. I heard they use California Grade 1 nuts, so I was excited to try a properly good walnut pie!

+ You can see the effort they put into keeping the shop hygienic, and various pay apps are accepted too :)

What pies are on the Hodu Kkakki Brothers menu?

Hodu Kkakki Brothers in Yangjae has 8 pie flavors in total, and you can buy them by the slice or as a big whole pie.

The handmade pie set menus in various combinations look so pretty that I think they'd make great gifts! + There are also drinks like coffee, lattes, ades and tea, and apparently a limited-quantity Dubai crispy pie, so keep that in mind :)

From the whole pie sets, I wanted pies with all kinds of nuts, so I ordered the <Premium Mix Pie (8 pieces)>.

The Premium Mix Pie at Hodu Kkakki Brothers comes with 4 flavors, 2 pieces each, 8 pieces in total: Signature Walnut Pie, Hazelnut Cacao Pie, Original Pecan Pie and Macadamia Cheese Pie. Let's open the Premium Mix Pie I brought home from this Yangjae handmade pie shop!

I'd seen the individual pies and the mix pie in the shop, but opening the real thing, the look is absolutely stunning?! I wanted to dig in the second I opened it! haha

How to store Hodu Kkakki Brothers pies

Also, they say the pies taste best refrigerated and eaten within 7 days, and if you freeze them (up to 30 days), let them thaw at room temperature for about 10 minutes before eating :)

How does the Original Pecan Pie taste?

The Original Pecan Pie at Hodu Kkakki Brothers is topped with big whole pecans and is sweet without being too much. The first one I tried was the Original Pecan Pie, since pecans are my favorite nut.

The look of big whole pecans and the glossy surface make you think of the pecans' nutty sweetness. I heard Hodu Kkakki Brothers doesn't use sugar in its pies and sweetens them with natural honey, oligosaccharide syrup and maple syrup. So the sweetness is not overpowering, and I think you can eat a lot without getting tired of it! Every bite of the generous pecans made me happy :)

How does the Hazelnut Cacao Pie taste?

The Hazelnut Cacao Pie at Hodu Kkakki Brothers pairs natural cacao with hazelnuts, nutty and sweet, with a smooth filling. Next up was the one I was most curious about, the Hazelnut Cacao Pie.

Just looking at the chocolate drizzle feels like a sugar recharge haha. I love chocolate, so I couldn't help being interested in this one. Natural cacao meets hazelnuts for a nutty sweetness that felt so good, and the cacao filling was really smooth too!

How does the Macadamia Cheese Pie taste?

The Macadamia Cheese Pie at Hodu Kkakki Brothers has a cheesecake filling sweetened with honey, I'm told. And it's sprinkled with macadamia on top. Can you imagine the taste?

Premium macadamia nuts meet cheesecake! The mild macadamia flavor on top of the soft cheesecake made me think, "wow, there's a taste like this in the world," from the very first bite^^

How does the Signature Walnut Pie taste?

The Signature Walnut Pie at Hodu Kkakki Brothers has more walnuts than filling on the crust, plus a hint of cinnamon. Last up is the Signature Walnut Pie, and if you look closely, the walnuts are really piled high!

It's honestly almost pure walnut, and the cinnamon scent went so well with the walnuts' natural nuttiness. I loved the chewy texture of the walnuts!

And not just the walnut pie, but all the pies at Hodu Kkakki Brothers have really thin crusts, with plenty of filling and nuts on top, so you can really taste the pie itself. That's the big plus!

Who is the Premium Mix Pie a good gift for?

The 4 pies at Hodu Kkakki Brothers, a Yangjae dessert favorite, each have their own personality but all taste great, so it's hard to pick just one~ The Signature Walnut Pie and Original Pecan Pie are classic flavors with little divide in opinion, so I think they'd be good gifts for parents, and I recommend the Hazelnut Cacao Pie or Macadamia Cheese Pie to anyone looking for a trendy dessert!
