Why I picked Jangpro Hanwoo Galbitsal, a hanwoo restaurant in Daegu
My boyfriend and I were craving beef after a long while, so this time we went to Jangpro Hanwoo Galbitsal (장프로한우갈빗살), a well-known barbecue place around Hwanggeum-dong in Daegu. I like hanwoo (Korean beef) in general, but the price means I can't eat it often, so I went looking for somewhere that lets you enjoy it at a reasonable price.

Once I got there, I understood right away why it gets recommended so much as a hanwoo spot in Suseong, Daegu. The place is bigger than I expected and the tables are nicely spaced out, so it looked good for family meals or company dinners too. Everything was kept clean, so we could eat comfortably.

Parking and transport
There's a large parking lot, so driving is easy, and there's a bus stop right in front, so public transport is no trouble either.
Above all, this place uses only 100% hanwoo (Nureongso, Korean native cattle) galbitsal (rib finger meat), which made me trust it even more. They don't carry cheap dairy-cattle beef and sell only pure hanwoo, so I had high expectations for the meat itself.

How was the hanwoo galbitsal + sirloin (1++) 500g?
We ordered the signature set, hanwoo galbitsal plus hanwoo sirloin (1++) 500g, and when the freshly sliced meat came out, it looked delicious from the very first glance.

The sirloin and galbitsal came in generous portions with really beautiful marbling. It looked so fresh that I just wanted to start grilling right away.

Galbitsal first
We grilled it piece by piece, and even the aroma as the meat cooked was something else. I tried the galbitsal first, and the more I chewed, the richer and nuttier it got, with that signature chewy texture still intact and juices filling my mouth.
If you like chewy meat, you'll probably love the galbitsal more! Maybe because it's hanwoo, there was no gamey smell at all and the aftertaste was clean.

Sirloin 1++
After finishing the galbitsal, I moved on to the sirloin, and unlike the galbitsal it was tender, with juices spreading through my mouth. It wasn't too greasy, just clean and savory, so I kept reaching for more. There's a reason people talk about it as the hanwoo spot in Suseong, Daegu.

Side dishes
The side dishes all went well with the meat. We got lettuce, scallion geotjeori (fresh scallion salad), scallion kimchi, white kimchi, yangpa-jang (pickled onion), corn mayo salad and chili peppers. Beef can get a little heavy after a while, and eating it with the scallion kimchi or scallion salad cleaned up my palate so I could enjoy the meat again. The white kimchi was refreshing and paired really well with the sirloin, and the pickled onion seemed to bring out the flavor of the meat, so it was fun trying different combinations.

The price isn't a burden considering the quality of the meat, which made me even happier. Given hanwoo prices these days, it's a place where you can eat at a reasonable price, so I thought it would work for dates and for family dinners too.

Finishing with beef doenjang jjigae
You can also cook your own ramen for ₩3,000 at the self-serve corner, but we wanted rice, so we ordered doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew). It was packed with beef and looked overwhelming from the start.

The stew had a rib bone in it and was so flavorful, a total rice thief!! It had plenty of meat too, and it was a really delicious way to end the meal.

Who should go?
Overall, I was happy with everything: the meat quality, the price and the atmosphere. It's good for a date, it seemed fine for taking your parents, and the easy parking made it convenient to reach.

If you want proper hanwoo at a reasonable price, I'd recommend Jangpro Hanwoo Galbitsal as a barbecue spot in Hwanggeum-dong, Daegu. Next time I'm thinking of going with my family. If you're looking for hanwoo in Suseong, Daegu, this was a place for a satisfying meal.
