Bulgogi lunch after the Gimcheon zipwire, for 4: Sonamu Sikdang

Sonamu Sikdang Gimcheon Main Branch is a grilled bulgogi restaurant in Apo-eup, Gimcheon, Gyeongbuk. After the Gimcheon zipwire and the Buhang Dam suspension bridge, four of us shared 2 servings of soy-sauce grilled bulgogi and 2 servings of ojam bulgogi (squid and pork), and ordering rice brought doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and side dishes with it. Sonamu Sikdang was full at lunchtime, but the wide parking lot and the hearty full table made it a satisfying lunch stop on a Gimcheon day trip.

Cheongchuni Oranda Dongmun Market Main Branch Tapdong is an oranda (chewy Korean rice-syrup snack) shop inside Dongmun Market in Jeju City. A Jeju local stopped in on the day she flew back from the mainland and picked up bulk yuzu and nut oranda along with single packs of Uido peanut oranda for ₩4,000 and gamtae (sea kelp) oranda for ₩4,000. Free in-store samples make choosing flavors easy: the bulk bags are for snacking at home, and the individual packs split neatly into gifts.

Jeju rice cake shop with cream cheese mugwort baekseolgi: Suragan

Suragan Tteokbang is a rice cake shop on Noyeon-ro in Jeju City, a short drive from Jeju International Airport, where omegi-tteok (glutinous rice cake balls) is sold alongside individually wrapped chewy rice cakes. Landing back in Jeju after a mainland trip, the writer stopped in for an omegi-tteok set plus mugwort tteok-garae, sweet pumpkin baekseolgi and cream cheese mugwort baekseolgi to share with her child. The omegi-tteok came individually wrapped in a tidy box that works as a Jeju gift, and every chewy rice cake was good enough that she plans to mix several kinds again.

Aewol noodle restaurant with a Naver reserved seat at 2pm: Handam

Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch is a noodle and gukbap restaurant in Aewol, Jeju, with floor-to-ceiling windows facing Gwakji Beach. Even at 2pm the dining room was full, so a table booked through Naver Reservations held the seat for three people sharing lean pork gukbap (rice in pork broth), a large dongchimi (radish water kimchi) bibim noodle bowl, tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patty) and chive pork sundae (blood sausage). With high chairs, kids' tableware and a self-serve side dish bar, Handam Guksu is an easy lunch stop in Aewol for families with young children.
