During our Gangneung trip I was looking for a pleasant spot where I could relax with my child, and I found a place I really loved.

It's a Gangneung dessert-snack spot where I could spend a relaxed time without any parking stress,

and I'll share my visit review and tips about Gangneung Sand Main Branch (강릉샌드 본점) in detail.
Is parking easy at Gangneung Sand Main Branch?
Gangneung Sand Main Branch has a spacious dedicated parking lot, so I could stop by without worrying about parking. When you visit Gangneung, parking is one of the biggest headaches every time you go to a famous restaurant or café, right?

Around Gangneung Jungang Market, where Gangneung Sand first started, parking is tricky and it's crowded, which is honestly quite a burden when you have a child with you.
But the main branch I visited is in a slightly quieter spot, yet the building is huge and the dedicated parking lot is roomy, so I felt relieved the moment we arrived.

Stroller and wheelchair access and the floor layout at Gangneung Sand
There is a proper elevator inside the building, so getting around with a stroller was very comfortable. For family travelers with a young child like mine, or with lots of luggage, a stroller or wheelchair is a must, and this part was really convenient.

You go up to the 2nd floor to order and rest, a layout split by floor. I strongly recommend it as a big Gangneung café for anyone who wants to avoid the busy market crowds and fully enjoy a relaxed time.

Gangneung Sand Main Branch 3rd-floor toy excavator zone and photo spots
On the 3rd floor there is a zone with toy excavators you control by remote. After looking over the menu on the 2nd floor, I went up to the 3rd and found a special space that makes kids' eyes go wide.

It was a toy excavator zone where you can steer the machines yourself with a remote control.

My child is still too young to operate one, so we didn't pay to try it, but if you come with slightly older kids, they could play happily in the excavator zone without noticing the time while the parents drink their coffee.

There were also so many pretty photo zones around the café. I sat my child on a bench with a puppy doll in front of a cool blue backdrop reminiscent of Santorini in Greece, and took pictures,
and maybe because the lighting is good, the photos came out bright and lovely. If you're planning a Gangneung trip with a child, Gangneung Sand Main Branch can be both a great place to rest and a great photo studio.

How do Gangneung Sand's black sesame and Chodang corn sand taste?
The signature sand is the star of Gangneung Sand Main Branch. I tried the black sesame and the Chodang corn (a sweet corn variety from Gangneung) flavors, and personally the black sesame felt deeper.

They say it's a crisp cookie baked with top-grade French gourmet butter, generously filled with soft cream cheese and sweet-and-salty homemade salt caramel, and from the first bite a rich, luxurious flavor filled my mouth.
When I cut it open, the filling was really packed in. The pleasant sweetness unique to Chodang corn was very appealing too, but

to my own taste, the black sesame flavor, with its rich, nutty character, came across a little deeper.

I understood right away why Gangneung Sand became so famous by word of mouth as a signature Gangneung dessert snack. There are also strawberry, dried persimmon, sweet potato, coffee and other flavors, so next time I vowed to pack up plenty of the other flavors as Gangneung trip gifts for people I know.

What is Gangneung breakwater bread?
Gangneung breakwater bread (방파제빵) is a mini bread shaped like a scaled-down tetrapod (breakwater block) from the Gangneung seaside. I ordered it in addition to the signature sand at Gangneung Sand Main Branch, and it grabbed my attention the moment it arrived.

It was a mini bread that shrinks the tetrapods you often see at the Gangneung seaside into a very detailed and cute little version.

It turns out Gangneung breakwater bread isn't just cute: it won a bronze prize at the Gangneung tourism souvenir contest, so it's a proven Gangneung dessert snack.

Peach iced tea with aloe and an iced Americano at Gangneung Sand
For drinks, we had a peach iced tea and an iced Americano with a nicely nutty flavor.

In particular, the peach iced tea here is full of clear, chewy aloe gel, so every sip had a pleasantly chewy texture that was great. Taking a bite of bread and following it with a cold Americano made for a perfect tea time.

Gangneung Sand Main Branch with a child: the verdict
In the spacious, comfortable building of Gangneung Sand Main Branch, we enjoyed tasty bakery items and drinks and could relax with our child without worrying about disturbing anyone.

If you want to try a special Gangneung dessert snack without the parking struggle, I recommend you don't hesitate and stop by.

You'll surely fall for the quality and convenience of Gangneung Sand!
