Beef sashimi bar in Gojan-dong, Ansan: wasabi seaweed wraps at Yuksul
In short
Yuksul (육술) is a Korean drinking bar in Gojan-dong, Ansan, near Jungang Station, that specializes in yukhoe (seasoned raw beef), beef sashimi and mungtigi (thick-cut raw beef). On a weekend, the writer booked a table at Yuksul's 5 p.m. opening with a friend from Seoul and ordered hanwoo sashimi (39,000 won) and handmade chicken nanban (24,000 won) with Suntory draft beer and highballs. The best bite was the hanwoo sashimi with wasabi, which you have to ask for separately, wrapped in gamtae seaweed and aged kimchi with a sesame oil dip. With fresh beef sashimi, good draft beer and clean restrooms, Yuksul is a Gojan-dong bar worth taking out-of-town friends to.

What kind of bar is Yuksul in Gojan-dong, Ansan?
Yuksul (육술) is a bar in Gojan-dong, Ansan, specializing in yukhoe (Korean beef tartare), beef sashimi and mungtigi (hand-cut raw beef). It's not just a yukhoe place. It's genuinely fresh and delicious, so it's already famous around Ansan! The freshness rivals a butcher shop, or even beats it!
Since it's a bar, there are plenty of dishes besides the raw beef, so even people who can't eat raw food will like it! I live in Gojan-dong, but I brought a friend who used to live on her own in Seoul to Yuksul, and she was so happy with it~

Do you need a reservation for Yuksul on weekends?
Yuksul fills up fast on weekends, so booking is a good idea. My friend and I reserved for 5 p.m., right at opening, and even so the place filled up quickly. Truly the number one yukhoe spot in Gojan-dong, Ansan!

They even put my name on the table to make the booker feel good, haha. And booking was worth it, because the weekend fills up so fast,,

Seating and atmosphere at Yuksul
Yuksul has roomy seating across the 1st and 2nd floors. The ceilings are high, but the air conditioning was blasting and it was a little chilly, haha.

Are the restrooms at Yuksul clean?
The women's restroom at Yuksul is on the 2nd floor and it's really clean, with oil-blotting papers, hairpins, hair ties, dental floss, even mouthwash…!!! It also smells so good that even with the door open you get a lovely scent.

What we ordered at Yuksul on a weekend
The complimentary starter at Yuksul is beef radish soup. It's full of meat, and the meat is incredibly tender.. They put it on a burner so it doesn't go cold, which I love.
Mungtigi isn't available on weekends, so we ordered the following.
- Hanwoo sashimi ₩39,000
- Handmade chicken nanban ₩24,000
- Suntory draft beer
- Suntory highball
- Soju

The aged kimchi, salted squid and handmade sauces were all perfect… honestly you could just eat the side dishes and be happy.

How fresh is the hanwoo sashimi at Yuksul?
Yuksul's hanwoo sashimi (₩39,000) comes topped with minari (water dropwort)! Doesn't it look fresh just from the color??

It was even better with Suntory beer and highballs ㅠㅠ On a hot summer day, Yuksul's draft beer is a star too~ Ah, I'm craving it right now.

Best way to eat hanwoo sashimi: wasabi, gamtae seaweed and aged kimchi
For Yuksul's hanwoo sashimi, I asked for wasabi separately and the best combo was putting wasabi on gamtae (seaweed), aged kimchi and sesame-oil dip. There are so many side dishes to wrap with that it's hard to choose, haha.

How good is the handmade chicken nanban at Yuksul?
Yuksul's handmade chicken nanban (₩24,000) is fried chicken that's insanely tender. My friend said she wanted chicken, so we ordered it, and wow, the tenderness.. Yuksul's chicken is tender too.

It's really good eaten with the spicy wasabi-mayo-style sauce on top. There's salad underneath too, so it's great as a palate cleanser, haha.
Is Yuksul in Gojan-dong, Ansan worth a return visit?
When friends from out of town visit, I strongly recommend Yuksul. Mungtigi is only sold on weekdays for freshness, so do come on a weekday and try it ㅠ
The food, the drinks (especially the draft beer), the restroom and the friendly staff are all great, so it's a bar you keep going back to. Yuksul draws lots of people even without outdoor seating. If you're looking for fresh yukhoe, beef sashimi and mungtigi, I recommend Yuksul in Gojan-dong, Ansan.
