Today I'm sharing my review of Sindong Lab, a Bongdam, Hwaseong favorite that's perfect when you're craving clean, tidy Japanese food.

The value for money was great, and everything from the main dishes to the before- and after-meal extras was spot on. I kept thinking, "If this were near my house, I'd totally go every week!" Let me walk you through it, from handy parking info to my thoughts on the signature gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) and sukiyaki (beef hot pot) set!

What's the atmosphere at Sindong Lab Hwaseong Bongdam Branch like?
Sindong Lab Hwaseong Bongdam Branch is a Japanese restaurant on Wauro in Bongdam-eup, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. The space was big and pleasant, and it felt more like a café than a restaurant.

Especially! The tables are spaced widely apart, so it was really comfortable to eat here!
Where do you park at Sindong Lab in Bongdam?
There's dedicated parking right in front of the shop, so visiting by car was really easy! When you head to a good restaurant and there's no parking, or it's cramped, it's such a hassle.
💡Tip! If the lot is full, you can use Bongdam Wawoo Public Parking Lot, a 2-minute walk away (1 hour 30 minutes free).
Sindong Lab menu lineup and signature dishes
The menu is split into main set meals and single-dish rice bowls (donburi). The varied, neatly presented Japanese dishes caught my eye!

- Main set meals: gyukatsu, sukiyaki, fatty tuna belly and salmon set
- Single-dish rice bowls: steak don, sake (salmon) don, yakitori don and more
With signature dishes that people of all ages would like, it works for a couple's date, a family meal out, or a get-together!
Pre-meal pomegranate tea and truffle cream soup
Once you order at Sindong Lab, a refreshing pomegranate tea to whet your appetite and a warm cream soup come out first.

The cream soup had a subtle truffle aroma and was really good! Even before the mains arrived, that kind of thoughtful detail made me feel properly treated.
Honest review of the gyukatsu and sukiyaki set
We ordered Sindong Lab's popular signature dishes, the gyukatsu and the sukiyaki set.

Crispy outside, juicy inside: tender gyukatsu
The gyukatsu was outstanding, really tender with no gamey smell! Lightly cooking it on the small brazier, the juices burst out and it melted in my mouth.

A perfect balance of meat and vegetables: the sukiyaki set
Tender meat and crisp, fresh vegetables came together generously, and it passed the look test right away!

The mild, deep broth was the textbook sweet-and-salty, and with the fresh ingredients it was perfectly balanced!

The udon noodles included at the end went into the simmering broth, and they warmed me right through and left me nicely full!
Adding salmon sashimi (₩7,000) and fried shrimp (₩4,000)
The mains alone were plenty, but the sides at Sindong Lab are priced so you can order them without worry, so we added salmon sashimi (₩7,000) and fried shrimp (ebi fry, ₩4,000)!

The salmon sashimi had a decent thickness and size, great for enjoying the flavor and the chew, and the fried shrimp, crispy outside and springy inside, was just right alongside the mains.
Post-meal ice cream corner and overall verdict
After the satisfying meal, there's an ice cream corner, so I finished with a sweet dessert.

From the pre-meal tea to the dessert ice cream, we had the full course!

Overall, this Bongdam, Hwaseong restaurant scored very high on value for money, food quality and satisfaction.
- Wonderfully tender gyukatsu
- Refreshing pomegranate tea and truffle cream soup
- Sukiyaki with a good balance of vegetables and meat
- Ice cream for dessert, all in one visit
