Dangjin Korean restaurant with whole-squid stir-fry for 2: Ojjingeo
In short
Ojjingeo Dangjin (오찡어 당진점) is a squid-specialty Korean restaurant on Cheongryong-gil in Dangjin, Chungnam. At a packed weekend lunch, the blogger ordered stir-fried squid for 2, squid tangsuyuk (sweet-and-sour fried squid) and steamed egg. The whole squid in a smoky, wok-fired sauce went perfectly with rice, and the spice level could be adjusted. With a self-serve side dish bar and private rooms, Ojjingeo Dangjin is a solid pick for family and group Korean meals.

I was traveling to Dangjin and was craving Korean food so badly~ I went looking for a homestyle, mom's-kitchen kind of place and found this squid specialty restaurant🤍 It's "Ojjingeo Dangjin" (오찡어 당진점).
Ojjingeo Dangjin location and opening hours
Ojjingeo Dangjin is a Korean restaurant specializing in squid dishes, on the 1st floor at 17 Cheongryong-gil, Dangjin-si, Chungcheongnam-do. It's open 11:00–22:00, with a break from 15:00 to 17:00, and closed every Monday.

Ojjingeo Dangjin is on the 1st floor and has a big red sign, so it's easy to find🐻 The main menu items are written large in front of the restaurant, so you can check before going in. They come with photos too, so you get the picture at a glance.

Weekend lunch atmosphere and room seating
We went on a weekend lunch and I was surprised at how busy it was, almost completely full🫢 There are tables in a large hall and in rooms. The rooms are recommended for group gatherings, and you can eat in privacy.

How to order and the review event
Ojjingeo Dangjin also runs a review event, giving a tasting portion of squid tangsuyuk (Korean sweet-and-sour dish)🎀 Everyone should join in! We saw it too late, so we just ordered it and tried it!
You order on the tablet set up at each table✨ We ordered 2 servings of stir-fried squid.
I liked that the food photos and prices are laid out so clearly. This time we picked the squid tangsuyuk, but next time I'd like to try the jeon (savory pancake). With only 2 of us, the menu choices were limited ㅜㅜ It would be even better to come with family, order a variety and share.

Basic side dishes and the banchan self-bar
The basic side dishes were set out as soon as we ordered🍀 They were simple but covered the essentials. Every single one was delicious~

If you need more side dishes, you can grab extras at the self-bar💫 Before the main dish arrived, I went back for a refill of the corn salad, haha. The aprons are disposable, which is hygienic, and I liked that.

Stir-fried squid for 2: spice level and taste
The stir-fried squid for 2 at Ojjingeo Dangjin comes coated in a rich fire-grilled flavor🌟 The red sauce is sprinkled with sesame seeds.

The squid comes in whole, and they cut it into bite-sized pieces with scissors for you🌙 You can smell the fire-grilled sauce. The sauce is so red that I worried it would be too spicy, but it was just the default level, perfectly spicy and tasty. The spice level can be adjusted.

The chewy squid texture and the spicy sauce go together so well, it's a total rice thief (a dish that makes you eat lots of rice)☀️ I just put it on white rice and finished a whole bowl in no time. I really liked that it isn't giant squid. The vegetables mixed in, like green onion and carrot, were good too. It felt like picking the vegetables out of jeyuk-bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork).

What does the squid tangsuyuk taste like?
Next is the squid tangsuyuk. Tangsuyuk sauce is poured over fried squid. It gives off a lightly sour smell. Sesame seeds are sprinkled here too, which makes it look even tastier.

Inside the crispy batter, it's packed with big pieces of squid🤍 I think the squid is even tastier than the meat version.

Steamed egg between spicy dishes
After eating all that red food, I started wanting mild steamed egg (gyeran-jjim), so I ordered it. The fluffy texture is a work of art. It's topped with sliced green onion too.

It's moist and helps calm your stomach😋 It had plenty of water in it, so the broth was a little pooled around it, which I liked even more.

₩2,000 drinks, and squid hot pot next time
Drinks at Ojjingeo Dangjin are just ₩2,000, and they come in a PET-bottle size. You can feel the owner's generosity ㅎ.ㅎ The real locals seemed to order the squid hot pot (jeongol) a lot. You can add noodles to it, and I wondered whether the hot pot might be even better. Still, based on my review of the stir-fried squid, I was completely satisfied.

If you're looking for a good Korean restaurant in Dangjin, I recommend Ojjingeo Dangjin💕 Even though it was peak lunch time and really crowded, the staff were kind and attentive, and I was grateful. Next time I'll come back and try the other dishes one by one, like the squid hot pot, squid jeon and squid suyuk (boiled squid slices)~
