Seongsu Italian restaurant with squid ink black risotto: Sedici

Sedici is an Italian restaurant on the first floor of Seongsudong Arc Valley in Seongsu, Seoul, a short walk from Seongsu Station. Booked for the opening slot, this visit covered beef tartare with a 3,000 won brioche add-on, fried sweet corn gnocchi, black risotto and a glass of wine with a draft Guinness, for 19,000 to 24,000 won per plate. The squid ink risotto stayed clean rather than heavy right to the last spoonful, and with two tables next door on blind dates, Sedici clearly works as a Seongsu date spot.

Pyeongtaek kalguksu restaurant with scorched rice: Goryeo Mulchong

Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu is a clam kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant on Pyeongnam-ro in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi, built around mulchong clams from Gochang. Two of us shared the 38,000-won two-person set — clam kalguksu, napa cabbage dumplings and pear-leaf boiled pork — then pressed the free all-you-can-eat fried rice onto the pan for crispy scorched rice and were served Pyeongtaek rice sikhye on the house. The course from clams to noodles to fried rice was satisfying enough that we would come back 100,000%.
