Nillai, a pool café we stopped at on a drive with our child
Nillai (닐라이) is a pool café in Wolgot-myeon, Gimpo, close to Ganghwa Island. We were out for a drive with our child, wondering where to go, and ended up at Nillai, which is known as a Ganghwa pool café. I'd heard you can relax with coffee in nature while the kids splash around, so my expectations were high, and the visit turned out far better than I'd imagined.

Is parking easy at Nillai?
The first thing I noticed on arrival was the big parking lot. There's plenty of room, so we parked easily even on a weekend, which is a huge plus for families with kids. And the green paddy fields spreading out the moment we stepped out of the car made the healing start right away.

Inside Nillai: paddy views through floor-to-ceiling windows
Inside, big windows show lush green paddies from almost everywhere, so the whole place feels close to nature. Sunlight pouring in together with the wide paddy view gave us a calm you can't get in the city. The interior was clean yet warm, and the seats were spaced widely, so it was comfortable to stay.

Above all, "a café for enjoying Gimpo's paddy views" describes Nillai perfectly. Sitting by the window looking at the green fields, I forgot my busy days for a bit and felt my mind settle. The rice swaying in the wind and the wide, open scenery looked lovely in photos, and every angle came out atmospheric.

Can you eat a meal at Nillai?
Nillai doesn't only sell coffee and drinks; it has a good variety of brunch dishes too. With sandwiches and brunch plates that work as a proper meal, it looked great for a simple lunch or a date. I thought I'd definitely have to try the brunch menu next time.

How were the Americano, strawberry latte and mango bingsu?
At Nillai we ordered a cold Americano, a sweet strawberry latte and mango bingsu (Korean shaved ice), which is a must in summer. The coffee had a rich aroma but a clean taste, perfect for sipping slowly while looking at the paddies. It wasn't too bitter and the acidity was just right, so anyone could drink it without trouble.

The mango bingsu, the thing I was looking forward to most, was generous from the first look. Ripe mango was piled on without holding back, and with the soft milk ice it melted in my mouth, which was the best part. Sweet mango plus cold shaved ice was the perfect dessert for a hot summer day, and the portion was big enough for two.

Enjoying tasty drinks while watching the paddies outside the window, time seemed to flow really slowly. Being able to relax in nature instead of a crowded café feels like Nillai's biggest charm.

Is the Nillai pool good for kids?
The reason Nillai is so popular with families is the pool. There's space for kids to run around and splash while the adults have coffee. It seemed safely managed, so parents could relax, and the kids played with friends and lost track of time.

Watching our child have a blast in the pool while we sipped cold coffee and took in the paddy view was really satisfying. The kids have fun and the parents get to recharge, so I think it's a perfect spot for a family outing.

Photo spots with the paddies as a backdrop
Nillai has plenty of photo spots where you can feel nature, which is great for taking pictures. Photos with the green paddies behind us felt like we were on a trip, and capturing the freshness of summer made it even better.
A day of tasty coffee and sweet dessert, green paddies to look at, and kids splashing happily in a cool pool. Nillai, the Ganghwa pool café, gave us relaxation and healing in nature at once, and it stayed in my memory as a place I want to visit again this summer. If you're looking for a special café near Gimpo, I recommend stopping by.
