In short

During a Jeonju trip, two diners shared the Aewol Hangeun set (50,800 won): special pork neck, cheongyeop hangjeongsal (pork jowl), gabeuri (pork shoulder cap) and fresh pork ribs with kimchi hot pot, plus self-serve bar sides and ice cream for dessert. Why we picked Seongsan Jejutgan Jeonju Sin-sigaeji for a trip dinner
Seongsan Jejutgan Jeonju Sin-sigaeji (성산제줏간 전주신시가지점) is a Jeju-themed BBQ restaurant on Hongsanbuk-ro in Jeonju, and it was where we ate dinner on our day out in the city. We had wandered around all day, and suddenly it was dinner time. Since we'd come all the way to Jeonju, we wanted something tasty, so we went looking for a BBQ place and ended up here.
The exterior gave off a Jeju vibe that caught my eye before we even went in. It was fun to eat meat with Jeju charm right in the middle of Jeonju's Sin-sigaeji (new town) area.

Atmosphere and how ordering works
The restaurant was bigger and more comfortable than I expected, and every table has a kiosk, which made ordering easy. It was clean overall, the tables weren't crammed together, and it was easy to browse the menu and order.
The staff were friendly too, so the meal started on a good note.

The Aewol Hangeun set for two: what's in it and what it costs
The Aewol Hangeun set is ₩50,800 and includes four cuts (teukmoksal pork neck, cheonggyeop hansaljeongsal, gabeuri and fresh galbi) plus a Seongsan Jeju black pork kimchi hot pot. The menu ranges from sets to à la carte items and sides, and the sets are handy when you can't decide which meat to get, since you taste several cuts at once. There were two of us, so we ordered the Aewol Hangeun set.
- Teukmoksal (pork neck) 250g
- Cheonggyeop hansaljeongsal 100g
- Gabeuri (pork neck-end cut) 100g
- Fresh galbi (pork ribs) 150g
- Seongsan Jeju black pork kimchi hot pot included
The sides had plenty of tempting options, but we had been snacking all over Jeonju that day and knew we couldn't eat much. So we didn't get greedy and ordered just the one set.
Once the food arrived, it turned out to be a pretty generous amount for two. We got to try a good mix of cuts, and with the hot pot alongside the meat, we were full without adding any sides. If you're looking for a BBQ place in Hyoja-dong, I think you'd like this kind of set.
The self-serve bar and the meat aging room

The basic banchan (side dishes) are neatly set out, and if you want more, you can grab it yourself at the self-serve bar. After we ordered and waited a bit, the side dishes arrived one by one.

Looking over the self-serve bar, there were several other dishes besides the basic banchan.

We couldn't just walk past it, so we brought back a little of everything we wanted and filled the table. Being able to take just as much as you need was convenient.

There's also a meat aging room at the back of the restaurant. We took a moment to look at the meat aging, and seeing it made me even more excited for the meat we were about to eat. Aged meat, after all, so I couldn't wait for the taste.
The Aewol Hangeun set looked great from the start

When the meat and kimchi hot pot came out, the first thing I noticed was the color of the meat. After a short wait, the meat and hot pot we ordered arrived, and it looked so appetizing that I wanted to get it on the grill right away.
Wow, the meat looks amazing!
The meat sizzled on the grill while the kimchi hot pot started bubbling next to it. Listening to the meat cook and watching the hot pot boil really got my appetite going.
The hot pot came to a rolling boil and looked fantastic. Getting meat and kimchi hot pot at the same time made for a really satisfying dinner combination. If you're looking for a company dinner spot in Jeonju's Sin-sigaeji, I thought it would work well for a bigger group ordering a variety of sets and single items.
Aged pork: wasabi or salt?

The aged pork here was delicious with just salt. When the meat was nicely browned, I finally took a bite. At first I put a little wasabi on top and dipped it in salt, and it was really good. But the meat itself tastes so good that salt alone was plenty.

Wasabi adds a clean finish, and with just salt you really taste the meat itself. After dipping it every which way, we concluded that it's delicious no matter how you eat it. Haha.

Since the set has several cuts, it was fun to try them one by one.

From the teukmoksal to the cheonggyeop hansaljeongsal, gabeuri and fresh galbi, each cut had a slightly different texture and flavor, which made for good conversation between the two of us.

We found this place while looking for BBQ in Hyoja-dong, and between the taste of the meat and the Jeju-style atmosphere, I felt we'd chosen well for a dinner on the road. It looked good for gatherings or company dinners in Sin-sigaeji, and it could be a useful reference for anyone near the Jeonbuk Provincial Office looking for samgyeopsal (pork belly) or other pork.
The Seongsan Jeju black pork kimchi hot pot that comes with the set

The Seongsan Jeju black pork kimchi hot pot included in the Aewol Hangeun set was a great match for a bite of meat. The bubbling kimchi hot pot went well with the meat, and a spoonful of warm broth between bites cleaned up the palate, so I kept going back for more.

In the end, we cleaned every plate again that day. We ordered only one set for two, but after the meat and kimchi hot pot we were fuller than I expected.
Ice cream for dessert
The restaurant has ice cream out for dessert after the meal. Cold ice cream after BBQ? Can't pass that up, haha. We happily grabbed two Ssangssangba (a twin-pop ice cream bar).
After wandering around Jeonju all day, having a tasty meat dinner and then ice cream made for a really satisfying end to the day.
What stayed with me after Seongsan Jejutgan Jeonju Sin-sigaeji
The Jeju-like feel from the exterior was memorable, and the restaurant was spacious and comfortable. Ordering at the table kiosk was easy and the staff were friendly. Above all, I liked that the Aewol Hangeun set lets you try several cuts at once, and seeing the aged meat in person was fun too.

If you're looking for samgyeopsal near the Jeonbuk Provincial Office or somewhere good for meat in Jeonju's Sin-sigaeji, this is a place worth remembering. If you want a hearty BBQ meal with Jeju charm during a Jeonju trip, you could try a set menu like I did.
An evening in Jeonju with a Jeju atmosphere thrown in: Seongsan Jejutgan Jeonju Sin-sigaeji. Next time I'm in Jeonju, I'd like to try one of the sides I skipped this time.

The restroom even had basic hygiene supplies. The owner is seriously thoughtful.
