Seating and atmosphere across the three floors
Upper and Under is a large café with plenty of seating across the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors. The cozy interior gave it a really healing vibe!
It's not too noisy or crowded either, so it's a good spot to chat with friends or go on a date — a very Instagram-aesthetic café. There's also a terrace seating area that's perfect for this kind of season〰️
Upper and Under's menu: drinks and bakery items
As a place known for its coffee drinks and bakery items, there was a wide variety of signature drinks and desserts that pair well with seasonal fruit, so I had a hard time choosing! I spotted coffee, decaf coffee, cold brew, salted caramel, pistachio, matcha cream oat latte, matcha pistachio, mango lemonade, mango sherbet frappe, einspänner, and more!
Does the bakery sell out if you visit in the evening?
I visited in the evening, so a lot of the bakery items were already sold out! The bakery menu includes fig pie, choco banana pie, salted choco financier, crème brûlée flan, caramel cheese pie, yellow cheese financier, sweet potato matang financier, canelé, madeleine, vanilla Basque cheesecake, yellow cheese Basque cheesecake, tiramisu cake, fig cake, lemon cake, raspberry cake, and more — such a huge variety!

How the Earl Grey grapefruit cake and fig pie taste
I picked two desserts! 1. The Earl Grey grapefruit cake had the deep, rich flavor of black tea, plus sweet whipped cream added on top, making the flavor absolutely wonderful! The cream had a hint of vanilla, and combined with the tangy freshness of grapefruit, it was a cake you could enjoy as sweet and tart at once〰️
2. The fig pie had crisp, nutty pastry topped with whipped cream and seasonal figs — perfect to eat with coffee! There was fig jam inside too, and it wasn't too sweet, just really delicious!
What does the signature salted caramel taste like?
The signature drink, salted caramel! Attention all sweet-and-salty lovers‼️ The cream on top of the coffee is sweet and smooth, and it's sprinkled with Lotus cookie crumbs, so eating it together felt like having dessert!
After eating the cream on top, I dug into the coffee underneath! The caramel-coffee layer underneath has salt mixed in, so it's sweet and salty at the same time, with even more umami depth. The sweet-and-salty combo is amazing👏
Caffeine-free hibiscus tea at Upper and Under
I love hibiscus tea, and since it's caffeine-free, it's great to drink without any worry! Hibiscus is good for reducing bloating, flushing out toxins, and skin care — it's a tea I really love!
But I should have paired the delicious desserts with a nutty americano — that was a bit of a shame! I'll have to come back for an americano next time🥹
Who is Upper and Under best for?
There are plenty of bakery cafés around Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station, but ones that are quiet, reasonably priced, and offer a huge variety of desserts seem rare〰️ Upper and Under is a pretty, large three-floor café that's also great for taking Instagram-aesthetic photos, so it's popular among women! There were lots of people out for blind dates, meetups with friends, and dates. Seeing so many people enjoying a happy weekend with good coffee and dessert made me feel happy too! If you're looking for a big, cozy, Instagram-aesthetic café in Gangnam, I recommend Upper and Under❤️
