Whenever hanwoo beef in Gangnam comes up, there's always the same dilemma: the good places are expensive, the cheap places are disappointing, and places with parking are basically unicorns.
This time I tried a Nonhyeon Station spot called Matbaegogi (맛배고기), and it was different. It's a premium Gangwon-do hanwoo specialist run personally by a certified Korean-food master, occupying an entire standalone house — with its own private parking lot.
Four of us stuffed ourselves for about ₩300,000, and walking out I genuinely said, 'This quality for this price?' haha. I really want this place to get more famous, so here's the detailed writeup!!!!
Matbaegogi in short: is it worth it?

- The price is genuinely reasonable for the meat quality
- Every single side dish is delicious — makes sense for a Korean-food master
- Private parking lot right at the restaurant
- Separate 2nd-floor room, perfect for group dinners and gatherings
- Interior is gallery-level classy
Would I go back to this Sinnonhyeon-area meat restaurant? 100% yes.

Where Matbaegogi is and when it opens
Address and how to get there from Nonhyeon Station

The address is 35 Hakdong-ro 2-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul (1st–2nd floor), South Korea. It's about a 3-minute walk from Exit 3 of Nonhyeon Station (Line 7 / Sinbundang Line), just inside the Yeongdong Market alley. It sits a bit off the main road, but the sign is noticeable enough that you won't get lost.
Opening hours

Hours are as below! Weekends actually run straight through with no break time, which is more convenient.

Parking at Matbaegogi (the big one!)
Matbaegogi has its own private parking lot inside the property. Everyone knows the area near Yeongdong Market is parking hell, right, ugh. No need to call valet — just pull straight in. If you've ever driven to Gangnam and circled twice looking for parking, that's me. This alone is reason enough to come back!!!!
What the restaurant feels like inside
The moment you walk in, the interior surprises you. A mini garden with gravel, mother-of-pearl display cabinets, and lighting — it feels more like a hanok gallery than a BBQ joint.
Because it's a standalone house, each floor has a different vibe, which makes it feel even cooler. It's split into terrace seats, a 2nd-floor room, and the 1st-floor hall. The crowd was about half local group dinners, half family gatherings. Tables were spaced generously, so conversation was easy.

The classy vibe also seemed suitable for taking parents or elders here!
The Korean-food master certification
On the entrance wall hangs a plaque for '2023 Korea Master Chef (Korean Food Master).' Next to it, a 'Gangwon Hanwoo Korea Premium Product' certification plaque. There's also a record of a Presidential Grand Prize at the 2025 Livestock Products Competition. Once you eat, you realize these aren't just decorative plaques.
The second-floor private room and free corkage
Matbaegogi has a separate room on the 2nd floor. Perfect for group gatherings, work dinners, or occasions like a marriage meeting where you need to talk quietly. It's fully separated from the 1st-floor hall, so it's never noisy.

And it offers free corkage too. Places with free corkage are rare, so this was a huge plus. Great for bringing good wine or whiskey to pair with the hanwoo.
👉 TIP: The room has limited seating, so reservations are a must. When booking, it's worth confirming bottle limits and whether glassware is provided for corkage.
Menu prices and the best set combination for 4

The menu prices felt genuinely reasonable relative to the quality.

Grilled items / sets

Sides / meals. We went with the Matbae Snowflake Hanwoo Set plus the Matbae Special Assorted Set. On top of that we added doenjang stew (soybean paste stew), hwangtae nurungji (dried pollack scorched-rice soup), rice, and yukhoe bibim noodles (raw beef tartare noodles). Total for four people came to around ₩300,000.
👉 TIP: It's tablet ordering, so you can add extras freely without feeling awkward. An English menu is also available, which makes it easy to bring foreign guests.
Eating at Matbaegogi: from banchan to hanwoo
Even before the meat, the side dishes alone already blew me away.

Before the meat even arrives, the table gets set with banchan (side dishes) first, and I was already impressed by the lineup: minari-tofu, green onion kimchi, aged kimchi, dressed salad greens, garlic/chili/ssamjang, wasabi, and pickled myeongi-namul (wild garlic leaves). We finished every single dish. Personally, the green onion kimchi was my favorite. My companions loved it too, and we refilled it several times. After the fatty hanwoo, one bite cleans your palate right up. When BBQ side dishes are this good, of course it's because of a Korean-food master.

And then, finally, the meat arrived!
Staff show you the raw meat, explain it, and then grill it for you themselves. I love a BBQ place where they grill it for you..

The meat quality was insane.

Ah, looking at these photos makes me genuinely want to go back.
Expensive doesn't always mean high quality when it comes to meat, but the quality here was genuinely different.

When the set arrives, it's beautifully arranged by cut on the plate, with marbling packed in like actual snowflakes — living up to the name Snowflake Hanwoo Set. Staff grill it for you from start to finish.

The visuals are insane.. They sear the surface on a cast-iron griddle, then move it onto a side grill net to finish with residual heat. Thanks to that, the meat isn't tough at all and stays juicy. You don't have to worry about controlling the fire at all — just eat what's handed to you.

To describe the taste: the sirloin-type cuts melt the moment they hit your mouth, spreading a burst of sweetness. It's not greasy — a clean sweetness that keeps you reaching for more. The skirt steak (anchangsal) has a chewy texture along the grain that's its own charm. The meat flavor is so rich that just a light dip in salt was the best way to eat it.
Portions were generous too — two sets were plenty for four people. The 450g sets come out much more filling than you'd expect. A friend who joined said they'd come back separately for another gathering, marveling that meat this good at this price just doesn't exist elsewhere (and I got praised for booking the reservation).
The side dishes and noodles were just as good

We ordered myeongran (salted pollack roe) and yukhoe bibim noodles, and this was a masterstroke! Fresh yukhoe and an egg yolk sit on top of spicy seasoned noodles, cutting through the richness without ever being overwhelming. Perfect for a bite or two between rounds of meat.

At the end, we added more food. The doenjang stew was rich and savory, authentic style, with tofu deepening the broth. The hwangtae nurungji was the perfect finisher — it completely settles your stomach. Pair that with a cold beer and, whew...... it's truly the perfect combo.
What to know before you book a table

- 🚨 There's a break time on weekdays from 3–5pm.
- 🚨 The 2nd-floor room has limited seats, so groups absolutely must book ahead.
- 🚨 There's parking, but the number of spots isn't unlimited. If you're a group, call ahead to be safe.
- 👉 TIP: Staff grill everything for you, so don't worry about timing — just focus on the conversation.
- 👉 TIP: If you order the noodle/rice dishes only after finishing the meat, there's a wait. Better to order them partway through.
- 👉 TIP: Since corkage is free, bringing good alcohol doubles the satisfaction!!!!
Final verdict on Matbaegogi

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Strongly recommended if you're:
- Driving to Gangnam for a group dinner
- Wanting a quiet gathering in a private room
- A hanwoo lover who's held back because of price
- Looking for somewhere to take parents or guests
The winning combo is this: Snowflake Hanwoo Set + Special Assorted Set + yukhoe bibim noodles + hwangtae nurungji. Add a beer. For around ₩300,000 for four people, considering the meat quality and service, it genuinely feels like a great deal.
Honestly, I hope this place gets even more famous. Hanwoo this good, at this price, in Gangnam, with easy parking? My next gathering is definitely happening here 💛 Strongly recommend it if you're looking for a hanwoo restaurant in Nonhyeon-dong, Seoul!!!!
