Yangjae Korean restaurant lunch with mom: premium baekban, MUSEO

Hi, this is Ddungi's Mom. 💐(•🐽•)🍚 My mom recently came up to Seoul, and I really wanted to take her somewhere with a refined, upscale Korean course meal — the kind of place you just can't find easily in the countryside.🤔 So I went looking and found a Korean restaurant that perfectly matched what I was after.

Today I'm sharing my review of MUSEO, a place with gorgeous interiors where you can enjoy a neat, premium baekban (Korean set meal) — great for treating important people, or as a spot for a Gangnam wedding-invitation gathering.❣️

How to get to MUSEO: location, hours and parking

MUSEO is located an 8-minute walk from Exit 2 of Yangjae Station.👇 It's also easy to reach by bus from Gangnam Station (Line 2), about 8 minutes away.👍

Lunch and dinner course compositions differ slightly. We visited at lunchtime and ordered the premium baekban lunch course.😃

There are two entrances from outside. If you're visiting with elderly parents, I'd recommend the back entrance stairs over the front door on the left — the slope is a bit gentler.😁

Inside MUSEO's flower-filled basement floor and private rooms

The moment I stepped inside MUSEO, I was genuinely wowed by the atmosphere. Soft lighting and flowers decorating every corner gave off a luxurious yet cozy feel.🫶

Since we'd reserved ahead, a tray and the lunch menu were already set out at our table.

Plus, it's an open kitchen where you can see straight into the cooking area, which made me trust the place even more.👍

Besides hall seating, there's also a private room that's great for family gatherings or wedding-invitation meetups. I'll have to book the room with my family next time!😘

Premium baekban for two: the starters at MUSEO

At our table was the lunch course menu. Since my mom loves yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef mixed rice), we ordered the premium baekban set for two and some dongdongju (unfiltered rice wine).🍶 After ordering, they first brought out pollack roe, kimchi and namul (seasoned vegetables) to go with the meal.👇

Before the main dishes, we were served steamed egg with anchovy and spinach, hanwoo (Korean beef) ox foot, and a mulhoe-style dish (cold raw fish soup) with Goheung sea bream and shrimp.😛

Steamed egg with anchovy and spinach — I'd never tried that combination and was curious, but the seasoning and texture came together perfectly. Really delicious.👍

My mom especially loved the mulhoe — cool, tangy-sweet, and packed with savory depth.🤪

The ox foot had a texture similar to head cheese. Chewy, and paired with the accompanying sauce and seasoned vegetables, it was the perfect drinking snack. Good thing we ordered the dongdongju, haha😆👍

After finishing everything, a mint sherbet arrives to cleanse the palate. It wasn't the sharp minty kind, more of a fresh, subtle herbal flavor, so I think even people who aren't into mint could enjoy it without issue! The fine shaved ice made for a really clean finish!😆👍

The main spread: yukhoe bibimbap, fried mackerel and pork tteokgalbi

Ta-da, the hearty main course finally arrived! Yukhoe bibimbap, savory doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), grilled gopchang gim (seasoned laver), mackerel fritter and hanudon (Korean pork) tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patty) — a full, generous spread.👇

For the yukhoe bibimbap, you mix it with the gochujang (chili paste) they provide.

Add a spoonful of the doenjang jjigae in there and mix it in — the savoriness and moisture take it to another level. So good!🤪

The doenjang jjigae tasted like a clear miso soup — clean yet savory, and a perfect match with the bibimbap!👍

The mackerel fritter had that distinctive dense mackerel texture with a crispy batter that suited it perfectly. The tartar-like sauce on top, which seemed housemade, was a great match too — genuinely delicious!🫶

The hanudon tteokgalbi had a deep grilled aroma and juices pooling moist inside — it just melted the moment I bit into it. This is a flavor pretty much anyone would like, no exceptions!😏

I piled the bibimbap, mackerel fritter and tteokgalbi onto the gopchang gim that came with the meal — the combination was way better than I expected.👍👍

For dessert, we got a walnut-flavored ice cream topped with granola and blueberries. A perfect ending, don't you think?🫶

Is MUSEO a good spot for parents or a wedding-invitation lunch?

My mom had barely been able to eat the day before, saying her stomach was off, but that day she finished everything without leaving a single bite — that made me really proud.😁 From the neat, upscale Korean course to the atmosphere, everything was spot on, and both my mom and I left completely satisfied.🥰
