Balsan Station pork galbi family dinner with a stroller: Ihwajeong

In short

Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga Magok-Balsan Branch is a pork galbi (Korean BBQ ribs) restaurant on the ground floor of a building about 300m from Balsan Station Exit 4 in Gangseo, Seoul. The writer came with a stroller and a young child, ordered two servings of 300g marinated pork galbi with mul naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles), then added two more servings because the galbi was so good. With wide aisles, generous table spacing and plenty of high chairs, Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga made for a satisfying family dinner with a child.

👩🏼‍❤️‍👨🏻 We brought our stroller, and the aisles and table spacing were wide enough that it never got in the way, haha. Plenty of high chairs are on hand too — just ask staff for as many as you need!

📋 They also sell beef à la carte and set menus! Prices for your reference, haha. We went with the good-value pork.

Plated banchan (side dishes) with refills ordered by kiosk

🥗 The banchan (side dishes) come out beautifully plated in just the right portions. I tried every single one and they were all so good that we cleaned every plate, haha. My daughter and I each grabbed a bowl of cheongpomuk (mung bean jelly salad) and asked for more~ haha. If you need anything extra, order via the kiosk or from staff!

🍐 🥩 They brought out the meat with grated pear on the side! Everyone knows grated pear works wonders with meat, right? Grated pear and meat ✨ — a perfect match that tenderizes the meat, adds a subtle sweetness, and brings out even more flavor!

🔥 A staff member grilled the meat for us, and with the grated pear alongside it, I was really looking forward to the taste, haha.

🍽️ The tables are wide enough that even with several large plates on them there was still plenty of room, and the naengmyeon came out right away so it was great to eat alongside the meat, haha. There was extra dadegi (chili paste) to add, so I ate mine like bibim-naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles)!

🥓 Once the meat is fully grilled, they move it onto a plate with scallion salad and chamnamul (aster salad)! Just look at that glossy color~✨ The meat was so tender it'd be great for elderly folks with weaker teeth, or for eating with kids too 😋 My husband and I kept exclaiming how good it was as we ate!!

🥬 It was actually my first time at a BBQ place with no lettuce, perilla leaves, or garlic, but the scallion and chamnamul sides on their own were plenty, haha. And of course pairing it with the naengmyeon was delicious too!! I have no idea how many pieces my husband ate on their own lol.

Why we ordered two more servings of pork galbi

Two additional servings of marinated pork galbi

🥩 My husband and I weren't satisfied, so we ordered two more servings! That's how good it was, haha. Let's fill our bellies all the way up!!

🔥 For the second order, they didn't add the grated pear this time? (Not sure why.) And they just set the meat on the table and left,,, so I figured maybe they only grill it for you the first time, and I was cooking it on the grill myself when a staff member came over and grilled it for us after all! My husband said, "This just proves the staff are really good at grilling meat," and I burst out laughing — I still remember that, haha. This time the flames really flared up too, giving the marinated pork galbi a nice charred aroma ✨

Pear sherbet dessert that tastes just like a Tank Boy ice pop

🍧 Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga even gives you dessert! After a delicious meal, finishing off a hot summer day with pear sherbet made it such a satisfying meal, haha. I'd read reviews saying it tastes like 'Tank Boy' (a Korean ice cream bar), and it really did! Not-so-secretly, my eldest daughter stole mom and dad's portions too,,,😅

Thanks for the meal!

Verdict: Korean BBQ with a young child at Ihwajeong

💬 My daughter likes pretty older girls, so she kept talking to the staff member grilling our meat every time she came by — must've been a bit tiring 😅 but she stayed kind and kept engaging with her anyway, thank you,,, haha. Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga, our Magok/Balsan pork galbi spot, was memorable enough to rank in the top 3 places my husband and I have been for pork galbi! Our increasingly picky 4-year-old ate all the banchan and meat happily too, so it really was a good mealtime for our family 🥰 We're going back!!
