Hi, this is Bori! My husband and I walked the Namwon Keuneong coastal trail in Seogwipo, Jeju, and got a craving for dessert afterward — which is how we found Monocle Jeju. I'd heard it had received the Blue Ribbon rating multiple years in a row, so my expectations were already sky-high going in. Namwon Keuneong, right next to the Kumho Resort, is a beautiful spot for walking. I'd definitely recommend going there at least once!
A café stop after walking the Namwon Keuneong coastal trail
Monocle Jeju is a café in Namwon-eup, Seogwipo, just a short drive from the Namwon Keuneong coastal trail. We spent a long time walking, taking photos, and getting some sea breeze. Somewhere along the way I started feeling my sugar levels drop, and I was craving something cold and sweet. Searching for cafés in Seogwipo nearby, I came across Monocle Jeju.

Along the way to the entrance, there's a small sign that says MONOCLE BAKE SHOP with an arrow, so it's not hard to find. Hours are 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Why Monocle Jeju keeps earning Blue Ribbon ratings

I'd heard Monocle Jeju had won the Blue Ribbon rating multiple years running, so my expectations were high before I even arrived — and once I got there, I understood why it gets such good reviews 🙏 It's also listed on NOL, a gourmet travel guide. That was enough to convince me this wasn't just a pretty café, but one that's proven on taste 😎 The space itself stood out right away, and above all, the dessert quality was clearly a cut above at this Seogwipo café.

Right as you walk in, the dessert display case is packed with all kinds of cheesecakes, chocolate fudge cake, madeleines, and more. Each one even has a name tag, so it was fun just picking what to try.
The open kitchen: watching the cakes being baked

What impressed me most at Monocle Jeju was the open kitchen. The layout lets you see the baking happen right in front of you, so we got to watch the cakes being made as we waited. There was never a dull moment while waiting for coffee or dessert, and seeing everything made carefully by hand really built trust. That kind of open-kitchen layout says something about confidence in the dessert quality — and from a customer's perspective, it's fresh and genuinely fun to watch.

Seating was set with round marble tables and classic black round chairs for a cohesive look. The interior is fairly spacious, but the number of seats isn't that high.
Ordering at the tablet kiosk

Ordering at Monocle Jeju happens through a tablet kiosk, and the rule is one menu item per person. We ordered three items: the [signature] Monocle Jeju sweet pumpkin cheesecake, fresh Wimi tangerine juice, and organic Jeju matcha cheesecake, for a total of ₩21,200. We'd already had way too much coffee, so we boldly skipped it this time!
The desserts arrive at the table

When our order came out, it passed the visual test immediately. Just seeing everything neatly arranged on the tray got my hopes up.. 👉👈♥️
1. Fresh Wimi tangerine juice
Wimi is a neighborhood in Jeju famous even within Jeju for its tangerines, and this fresh juice is made from Wimi tangerines.

One sip in and I was already saying how refreshing and delicious it was. The sweet-tartness wasn't an artificial sweetness — it was the real flavor of tangerine, alive and intact. It was packed with ice too, so it was nice and cold, and it gave a real boost of energy to bodies tired from walking.
2. Monocle Jeju sweet pumpkin cheesecake (the signature)

A menu item whose name alone grabs your attention. Since it was introduced as the signature item, I ate it with high expectations — and it genuinely exceeded them.

The whole cake I'd spotted earlier from the kitchen was already gorgeous — thin slices of pumpkin arranged like flower petals on top of the yellow pumpkin cheesecake, clearly made with care. One bite in, both my husband and I had wide eyes 👀 The subtle sweetness distinctive to pumpkin blended beautifully with the rich cream cheese flavor.

Cut into with a fork, you can see the layered crust and cream cheese stacked up.. the texture was soft but slightly dense, so even one slice was filling.
3. Organic Jeju matcha cheesecake

If you like matcha, this is a must-try. Because it uses organic Jeju matcha, the deep, subtle aroma of matcha itself came through instead of any artificial bitterness.

The creaminess characteristic of cheesecake harmonized well with matcha's slightly bitter finish — a flavor that kept pulling me back for another bite.

Personally, I'm not a fan of matcha desserts that are too sweet.. but here, the balance between sweetness and matcha aroma was really well done.
Why ordering both cheesecakes was the right call

Honestly, I initially thought about ordering just one, but I'm really glad we ended up getting both. The pumpkin cheesecake has a soft, comforting sweetness, while the matcha cheesecake is deeper and more grown-up in flavor(?) — sharing the two really gave us two distinctly different kinds of enjoyment.
The outdoor terrace at Monocle Jeju

There's also an outdoor terrace area on one side of the café. The view stretches out with lawn and trees, and there are cute little string lights hanging from the trees — I imagine it would be a beautiful spot to visit in the evening on a nice day.
Final verdict on Monocle Jeju in Seogwipo
Monocle Jeju isn't just about the taste — the atmosphere of the space itself is really good too. It's also perfectly positioned for a quick break during a drive after walking the Namwon Keuneong coast, and the seats were comfortable enough that I wanted to stay a while. With the fun of watching the open kitchen on top of everything, there's never a dull moment at this Seogwipo café. On a nice-weather day, I'd definitely want to sit out on the terrace too.
