Daegu Seomun Market's twin peanut bread stalls: Daesin Peanut Bread

Daegu's Seomun Market is famous for kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup), tteokbokki, red fish cake skewers, hotteok (sweet filled pancakes) and more. But the treat I'm introducing today is peanut bread. It turns out to be a pretty popular item among all the street food at Seomun Market.

Where is Daesin Peanut Bread, and what are the hours and parking?

Daesin Peanut Bread (대신땅콩빵) is in front of North Gate 11 of Seomun Market Zone 2, and it's open 8:00 - 18:00. I parked in the underground car park of the Zone 2 Jonghap Sangga (general shopping complex).

I arrived at 10:40, and even then I had to go all the way down to level B3. A lot of cars go into that building, so it looks like you could wait a long time.

If you head out through the North Gate of Seomun Market Zone 2, you'll find two peanut bread shops right next to each other. Two come up when you search for Seomun peanut bread, and we visited Daesin Peanut Bread, where Hibab went. Seomun Peanut Bread seems to have been on Life of a Master (생활의달인), a Korean TV show.

I found it pretty fascinating that two shops, each with its own claim to fame, sit side by side.

This is the Daesin Peanut Bread where Hibab, the mukbang YouTuber who really knows her food, visited and fell for the taste of the peanut bread.

Hibab's autograph is posted in front of the peanut bread display. It was right before a holiday so it was crowded today, but during the day it's comfortable enough to buy your dessert without a hassle.

What are Daesin Peanut Bread's prices and menu?

You can buy the peanut bread in whatever set size you like, and the smallest unit is 20 pieces for ₩3,000, so it's no burden. Besides peanut bread there are also egg bread, peanut cream and more. Egg bread is ₩5,000 for 1, ₩5,500 for 3, and ₩12,000 for 7.

They had roasted peanuts and black peanuts too, sold by the doe (한되) or half doe (반되), the old Korean measuring units.

There were black peanuts out for tasting like this. I didn't even know black peanuts existed, so it felt all the more novel.

How many peanuts go into each Daesin Peanut Bread?

Making it, packing it... there were lots of staff, so I guess a great many people come here.

When I watched the owner make it, a truly huge amount of peanuts goes in. I'd never seen peanut bread stuffed to the brim in the mold like this. Usually there are just 1 or 2 inside, right? If you'd like just the bread without peanuts, they say they'll bake it plain for you.

The egg bread was baked neatly in the mold too. Both the peanut bread and the egg bread seem perfect for snacking.

Besides peanut bread, Daesin Peanut Bread also sells peanut butter.

They have peanut slush too. We were so full that we skipped the slush.

When should you buy Seomun Market street food?

We each held up a peanut bread for a photo, then, being so full, packed the rest and took it home. In the photo you can see there are at least 7 to 8 peanuts in each one. The peanuts are really crammed into a tiny bread.

I'd planned to buy from Seomun Peanut Bread next door too and compare, but we ran out of time and couldn't make it back this way. At Seomun Market, eat what catches your eye and buy what you want to buy right away. Later there may be a wait.

As lunchtime approached, Seomun Market got more and more crowded. It's a fun place with all kinds of food.

Does Daesin Peanut Bread hold up at home after takeout?

Daesin Peanut Bread is a nutty, savory treat thanks to all the peanuts inside!! If you come to Seomun Market, it's a dessert you should try at least once. Older family members will probably love it, so many people will take some home. Even at home, the Daesin Peanut Bread held up well without going soggy.
