Sokcho Beach favorite Sokcho Topgol Makguksu🖤 from perilla oil makguksu to deulkkae kalguksu
Hi, I'm Yeming :) Last week my family and I took a trip to Sokcho. As soon as we arrived, we went straight for brunch. I picked this place because I wanted something hearty before heading to the beach. Here's my review of Sokcho Topgol Makguksu, a Sokcho Beach favorite~!
Where is Sokcho Topgol Makguksu, and is parking easy?

📍Right across from Sokcho Beach
Sokcho Topgol Makguksu is right across from Sokcho Beach, so it wasn't hard to find. There's a large parking lot right in front, making it easy to park too. Parking is free for 2 hours, so it's a great route to eat and then head straight to the beach.
Is the dining room comfortable for a family with kids?

The restaurant space was fairly large. When we went, it was full of families, giving off a real travel vibe. The tables were spaced out generously, so it was comfortable for a family to sit together. Since it can get busy on weekends or during meal times, I'd recommend calling ahead.
Sokcho Topgol Makguksu menu and prices

✔️The menu board at Sokcho Beach favorite Sokcho Topgol Makguksu
Looking at the menu, there was a good variety of makguksu, kalguksu, and jeon (pancakes). Makguksu started at 10,000 won, going up to around 13,000 won with perilla oil or pollack toppings; kalguksu was 12,000 won, and memil jeonbyeong was 10,000 won. For a restaurant in a travel destination, the prices weren't too heavy, so it was easy to order a variety of dishes to share.
The five dishes we ordered for a family brunch

The basic side dishes were mu-chae (shredded radish) and yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi). Simple lineup, but it went well with the makguksu!

Memil makguksu, cold buckwheat noodles (10,000 won)
This memil makguksu comes with a separate broth topped with fine ice slush. I liked that you don't pour it all in at once — you can add as much as you like. With the tangy, cool broth added, it was a hearty brunch that still felt light on the stomach.

Deulmemak, perilla oil buckwheat noodles (13,000 won)
Deulmemak, it turns out, is short for deulgireum memil makguksu (perilla oil buckwheat noodles). The nutty perilla oil aroma hits first, and the buckwheat noodles were soft too. It wasn't overpowering, just clean and savory — the kind of flavor that keeps you reaching for more. What was cool was that partway through, you can pour in broth to turn it into a cold soup version. It's a signature menu item, so definitely order it!

Pollack-topped buckwheat makguksu (13,000 won)
This is a bibim-style makguksu topped with pollack sashimi in a spicy-tangy sauce. The sauce wasn't overwhelmingly strong, just pleasantly tangy and spicy, and the texture of the pollack was great too — a real recommendation if you like bibim makguksu.

Buckwheat perilla kalguksu with rice stirred in (12,000 won)
Of everything we ordered this time, this was my favorite. The broth, packed with perilla seeds, was rich and nutty — my body warmed up from the first spoonful. The buckwheat kalguksu noodles slid down smoothly too. The broth was too good to waste, so we added a bowl of rice, and mixing it in made for a really filling meal. The kalguksu is a total must-order!!

Memil jeonbyeong, buckwheat pancake roll (10,000 won)
We ordered this as a side, and it was better than I expected. The crispy fried pancake was packed with kimchi inside, so every bite was tangy and salty — really delicious.
