Hapjeong-Sangsu pizza pub: half-and-half at Pizza Never Sleeps, Seoul

Usually I lean toward Korean food, but on this particular day I was craving pizza — so I headed to Pizza Never Sleeps, well known as a pizza spot near Hapjeong-Sangsu.

Where is Pizza Never Sleeps Hapjeong-Sangsu, and when is it open?

Pizza Never Sleeps Hapjeong-Sangsu is located between Hapjeong and Sangsu stations on line 6. It's open daily from 12:00 to 23:00, closing at 24:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.

Coming up to the 4th floor, there's a store banner hanging with waiting seats right below it. We had a reservation so we went straight in, but if there's a wait you can sit up front.

Inside Pizza Never Sleeps: dim, pub-style seating

Inside Pizza Never Sleeps Hapjeong-Sangsu, the lighting isn't bright — it's slightly dim, which gives the place a somewhat private feel. It's calm rather than loud, so it's easy to talk. There's even a chandelier over the central seating area, which gave it an upscale pub feel.

The self-service zone has napkins, wet wipes, disposable gloves, and water. We debated grabbing gloves but decided to just eat with a fork and knife ~

What we ordered: a half-and-half of Chicken Never Sleeps and Potato

Looking at the menu at Pizza Never Sleeps Hapjeong-Sangsu, a well-known spot near Sangsu station, the two Never Sleeps pizzas seem to be the signature items, just like the name suggests. We went half-and-half with Chicken Never Sleeps and Potato, plus two zero-sugar colas.

The sauces and pickled sides that come standard at the table. There are three sauces — hot sauce, garlic sauce, cheese sauce — plus kimchi (seasoned fermented cabbage) and jalapeños on the pickle side. The fact that kimchi came out was such a fun surprise lol

The zero-sugar colas and ice cups arrived first. We're not really drinkers so we went with cola, but the tables around us were enjoying all sorts of drinks — bottled beer, draft beer, Jägerbombs, you name it.

How the half-and-half pizza tastes, and how big a regular is

After a short wait, the half-and-half pizza arrived. Chicken Never Sleeps on the left, Potato on the right. I had no idea the fries would be piled on that thick. We'd considered ordering fries as a side too, and thank goodness we didn't haha lol

The Potato half

First, the Potato is a pizza piled with a huge amount of fries. There were so many fries that toppings kept spilling off every time we lifted a slice. I worried it might be a bit dry since it's potato, but once I tried it, the tomato sauce, cheese, and fries turned out to work really well together. Drizzling on garlic sauce and hot sauce filled in the umami it was slightly missing, making for the perfect bite.

The Chicken Never Sleeps half

The other half was Chicken Never Sleeps. The chicken and the salty, spicy sauce really stand out. It's intense enough that you don't need any extra sauce. Dipping it in cheese sauce mellows it out a touch, but it's still plenty intense. Where Potato leans mild, Chicken Never Sleeps is spicier and saltier — since the two are opposites, alternating bites made each flavor stand out even more, in a nicely complementary way.

Since there were two of us, we ordered the regular size, but it was still almost as big as a large. Luckily the crust wasn't too thick, so the two of us managed to finish it all haha

Is Pizza Never Sleeps good for a Hapjeong date course?

Pizza Never Sleeps gave us a lot of food and it tasted just as good. Usually sticking to one flavor leaves you wanting more, so being able to pick two flavors with the half-and-half option was a big plus. This time we went with chicken and potato, but there are a lot of unusual menu items, so I'd like to come back. The inside is quiet and calm, so if you're planning a Hapjeong blind date or date course, or looking for a good-vibe spot with friends, I'd recommend Pizza Never Sleeps Hapjeong-Sangsu.
