Gangnam café with spacious multi-floor seating: Selected Nicks

In short

Selected Nicks is a tiramisu café in Gangnam, Seoul, with roomy seating across several floors. I ordered classic tiramisu, a decaf Americano, and yuzu peach green tea, and loved the artwork exhibition on the second floor. Verdict: a comfortable all-purpose café for work, catch-ups, or dates.

After eating near Gangnam Station, deciding which café to go to is always the dilemma.

It’s such a busy neighborhood that on weekends, I’ve often walked into a promising-looking café only to find no seats and have to leave again. This time, I was looking for a large café near Gangnam Station with plenty of seating and great desserts, and I visited Selected Nicks!

I loved that the café opens really early and stays open late, haha.

A roomy café spread across several floors

The first thing I noticed upon entering Selected Nicks was just how big it is! There are lots of pretty cafés around Gangnam Station, but many are small or have tightly packed tables. Since this one uses several floors as a café, it definitely felt more relaxed.

Each space had a slightly different atmosphere, so it was fun walking around to find the seat I wanted. There were people working alone with their laptops open, people chatting with friends, and others having casual meetings. In particular, the second floor displayed artworks, so it felt a little like a gallery café rather than simply a place to drink coffee.

Tiramisu and baked-goods menu

Selected Nicks is especially known as a tiramisu specialist. Looking at the display case, there were tiramisus in flavors ranging from classic to various others, so I spent quite a while deciding what to have.

Along with tiramisu, there were baked goods such as cookies, madeleines, and brownies. If you visit as a group, it looks like a great place to order a variety of desserts and share them.

You can also buy tiramisu in boxes that make it nice for gifting.

How was the classic tiramisu?

For a first visit to Selected Nicks, I chose the classic tiramisu first—it seemed like the one thing I really had to try. At ₩7,800, it is a little pricier than a regular slice of cake, but when it arrived, I was pleased that it was quite a generous size.

Generously sized classic tiramisu

It had a generous dusting of cocoa powder on top, and when I dug in with my spoon, the cream inside was incredibly soft. It wasn’t a cream that collapsed into a mushy mess, though—it was springy yet fluffy, so I could really enjoy tiramisu’s signature soft texture.

As it melted in my mouth, the rich, nutty flavor of the cream came through first, followed by cocoa’s pleasantly bitter edge, so it wasn’t as heavy as I expected.

As you’d expect from a place that puts tiramisu forward as its main dessert, even the basic classic version was delicious.

Tiramisu as the signature dessert

It’s a style with a lovely balance of creaminess and bitterness, rather than being simply sweet!

Tiramisu and Americano pairing

A bite of classic tiramisu followed by a sip of Americano naturally connected the cocoa bitterness with the coffee aroma—truly a can’t-go-wrong combination~

If you’re looking for a café to stay awhile near Gangnam Station

When you look for a café near Gangnam Station, it can often be hard just to find a seat because there are so many people.

Selected Nicks is a large café with several floors, so the abundance of seating was the best part, along with being able to choose a space in the style you want since every floor has a different atmosphere. It was a versatile café with a nice setting for bringing a laptop and working alone, chatting with friends, or going on a date.

Above all, true to its reputation as a tiramisu specialist, the tiramisu was even better than expected. Next time, I’d like to try a different kind of tiramisu instead of the classic one, along with the new baked goods. If you’re wondering where to go after eating near Gangnam Station, I recommend Selected Nicks, where you can enjoy everything from tiramisu to the rooftop in one visit!
