Braces-friendly galbitang restaurant near Hoegi Station: Hoegi Wang

Hellooo haha! I heard there's a great galbitang (beef short rib soup) spot near Hoegi Station, so I went to check it out! Let me introduce Hoegi Wang Galbitang (회기왕갈비탕) right away~~!

Where is Hoegi Wang Galbitang near Hoegi Station?

Come out of Hoegi Station Exit 1 and just keep walking straight and you'll find it! It's on the ground floor. Even the exterior gave off a serious "this place is good" vibe.

What are Hoegi Wang Galbitang's interior and wait like?

The inside was huge! Even so, when I walked in, every seat was taken. I'm pretty sure there's always a wait at peak hours and on weekends!

Self-serve corner: unlimited rice, barley snacks and misugaru

There's also a self-serve corner. With one menu item per person, rice is unlimited, and so are the tasty barley gangjeong (crunchy barley snack) and the "Grandma's 17-grain misugaru" (roasted grain drink)! The barley gangjeong makes a great appetizer haha.

Hoegi Wang Galbitang menu and price range

Here's the menu. It's split into galbitang, braised short ribs (galbijjim) and extra items. Galbitang can sometimes feel expensive, but the prices here are pretty reasonable! So we ordered 2 Wongi Hoebok Special Galbitang. It seems like a great place to bring your parents haha.

Two Recovery Special Galbitang bowls: what side dishes come with them?

These are the basic sides. Refills are available! In case anyone's surprised that there's only kkakdugi (radish kimchi),, there's also napa cabbage kimchi at the self-serve bar haha.

How tender is the Special Galbitang meat for braces wearers?

This is the Wongi Hoebok Special Galbitang. It has 3 rib bones, so it looked super generous.

The bones are huge and the meat is attached in big chunks, so as I picked it off the bone, the meat just kept coming haha.

See how much meat is on there? It wasn't tough at all, just tender and easy to eat. I even have braces and could still chomp right through it haha.

Pull off just the meat and dip it in the soy sauce and it's total heaven. The meat is so tender that I think older folks could eat it comfortably too.

What is this mouthwatering look,,,, There was no gamey smell, and eaten with the clear broth galbitang is known for, it was seriously so good.

Tip: eat the glass noodles first

The Special Galbitang also comes with a little bit of dangmyeon (glass noodles), so I recommend eating the noodles first! If they sit too long they get cut up and mushy, so they taste best while still springy haha.

17-grain misugaru as an after-meal dessert

To finish, I had the "Grandma's 17-grain misugaru" from the self-serve corner, and it was so nutty and delicious!! It really cleanses your palate, so I recommend it as an after-meal dessert haha.
