MR Namyangju Main Branch is a dog-friendly brunch café on Bukhangang-ro in Hwado-eup, Namyangju. I went looking for a place I could take my dog on a weekend. You know those days when you want brunch, you want to see a nice café, and you want to bring your dog too?

Not many places tick all of those boxes at once, but MR Namyangju Main Branch is known as a dog-friendly café in Namyangju, and it looked like a good stop on a drive along the Bukhan River.

The parking lot at MR Namyangju Main Branch is huge, so even on a weekend I didn't have to circle around looking for a spot. I went on a June weekend by car, and parking was the first thing I liked on arrival. Plenty of cafés in Namyangju are pretty, but if parking is awkward the day starts out tiring. MR felt easy on that front.

What are the lawn and outdoor seating like?

Inside MR Namyangju Main Branch there's a wide lawn with parasol tables, and the whole place feels green. Through the entrance you first see a gray outer wall with a blue logo, then you head up and a lawn opens out, bigger than I expected. All the trees make it feel even fresher.

The Bukhan River doesn't spread out right in front of you. It's more that you feel the quiet air and slow pace you get near a river. On a nice day I think the outdoor seats would stick in your memory more than the indoor ones, so it seemed like a good stop for anyone looking for a Bukhan River brunch café on a drive.

That day we ordered a dog treat, a cinnamon cream, vongole pasta and a bacon cheeseburger. The dog treat was ₩4,000, the cinnamon cream ₩8,000, the vongole ₩23,000 and the bacon cheeseburger ₩20,000.

Is MR's cinnamon cream very sweet?

MR's cinnamon cream (₩8,000) is a drink where you notice the cream on top and the cinnamon aroma first.

It's on the sweet side, but not too much to drink with a meal. I think it suits people who like soft, sweet drinks more than those expecting strong coffee.

How are the vongole pasta and bacon cheeseburger?

MR's vongole pasta (₩23,000) was a light oil-based pasta with plenty of clams. It came on a blue plate, so it photographs nicely, and the arugula and cheese on top kept it looking clean.

The savory clam flavor soaked well into the noodles, so I didn't get tired of it to the end. The bacon cheeseburger (₩20,000) came with fries and felt more like a hearty meal than brunch.

Cut in half, it had patty, bacon, cheese, egg, tomato and onion in layers. You taste the patty first, then the salty bacon and cheese follow. If two of you go, one vongole and one burger to share is a good combo.

MR's handmade dog treats: how did Terry react?

MR Namyangju Main Branch is a dog-friendly café with a ₩4,000 dog treat, so I ordered one for my dog Terry too.

It was described as handmade, and the packaging was neat. But Terry is cautious about unfamiliar treats, so this time he only sniffed it and didn't eat it. I think that's more about each dog's taste than the treat being bad. A dog who happily tries new treats might react differently.

MR Namyangju Main Branch is less a place where you just eat and leave and more a Namyangju brunch café where you enjoy the space too.

The outdoor lawn and the roomy parking lot stood out most. On days when you're out with a dog, that kind of easygoing atmosphere matters more than you'd think. The vongole and the burger were good for sharing between two, and the cinnamon cream should suit people who like sweet drinks. The dog treat didn't match my dog's taste, but I liked that there's a menu for dogs at all. If you want a meal and a café stop near the Bukhan River and you're looking for a brunch café you can visit with your dog, it's worth a look.
