Moi Hair Makeup is a hair and makeup salon I found while looking for somewhere in Hongdae to get makeup for an important event, a profile shoot or an interview. I had an important schedule and a shoot coming up, so I came for hair styling and makeup.

I heard lots of people visit before flight attendant interviews, announcer interviews or profile shoots. And above all, it's already famous as a great-value makeup salon in Hongdae..!

The space and the order of the session at Moi Hair Makeup

Moi Hair Makeup is all on one floor, but the makeup area and the hair area are separate. You get makeup first and then move to the hair room, and having the spaces divided actually felt more professional.

Brow shaping and base by a staff member

First, brow shaping and base makeup were done by another staff member. They neatly shaped my brows to suit my face and did the base carefully so the skin looked natural, so I was happy from the start.

About 40 minutes of makeup with the owner in a private room

After that I moved to a private makeup room and had my makeup done by the owner herself. It was a quiet space, so I could consult comfortably and explain the style I wanted in detail. The makeup took about 40 minutes, and since everything was done so delicately, the time flew by.

Can a Winter Bright cool tone pull off warm-tone shaded makeup?

This time the makeup was shaded with a semi-smoky feel. It wasn't too heavy or overwhelming, though; she finished it as natural warm-tone makeup I could easily wear day to day.

Honestly, my personal color diagnosis came out as Winter Bright cool tone. So I usually only wore cool-tone makeup, but this time I wanted to try warm tones too, and went ahead after talking it over with the owner.

Even with warm colors, my face didn't look heavy; the mood actually looked much softer and more polished. Personal color matters, but how you combine the colors matters even more, I realized. It was amazing that this could suit me so well, and it felt like discovering a new style, haha

Messy bun styling: extra cost and how long it takes

After the makeup at Moi Hair Makeup, I waited about 20 minutes and then had my hair styled.

They explained in advance that the ttongmeori (messy bun), where the hair is pulled up and tied, costs an extra ₩22,000. I wanted a neat bun, so I showed a photo and asked for it, and since they told me up front, it was easy to decide.

The hair styling took about 30 minutes. It came out almost exactly like the photo I brought, which I was really happy with. The flyaways looked natural and the overall volume was lovely, a polished style that's hard to make by yourself.

From makeup to hair, including the wait, everything took about 1 hour 30 minutes. It didn't take as long as I expected and the process ran smoothly, so it was comfortable.

What I liked most at Moi Hair Makeup was that they didn't just make me look pretty; they fully reflected the mood I wanted.
