I thought it was just a good patio spot, but it's a real pork belly restaurant. Honestly, at first I only expected the patio mood. Then I took one bite of the meat and completely changed my mind.
Camping-style patio that works even in the rain
The patio at Hwapyeongjip is decorated like a campsite, and the plus is that you can use it even when it rains. It feels open and airy, yet you don't have to worry about the rain, so the weather stops being a concern. I could see why it's popular.
What side dishes come free at Hwapyeongjip?

As soon as we sat down, kimchi, minari (water dropwort) and bean sprouts were set out as the free side dishes. I liked the lineup right from the setup.
- Kimchi
- Minari (water dropwort)
- Bean sprouts
I especially loved that minari comes free. Lots of places now charge extra for minari, so getting it by default boosted my satisfaction. Grilled together with pork belly, it's honestly a perfect combo.
How to enjoy Hwapyeongjip even more

How much are the neck pork and pork belly at Hwapyeongjip?

That day I ordered 200g of neck pork (moksal) and 200g of pork belly (samgyeopsal) at Hwapyeongjip. The price was about ₩7,900 per 100g, which felt easy on the wallet. Considering meat prices these days, it seemed pretty reasonable, haha.

But what surprised me even more than the price was the quality. The color looked great the moment it arrived. The marbling was just right and you could see the freshness!!

Grilling Hwapyeongjip pork belly with minari and kimchi
At Hwapyeongjip, the staff cleared away the excess meat fat and explained the order of grilling. We started with the pork belly. Hearing it sizzle made my hunger explode, lol. The meat already looked amazing.

They put the pork belly on the grill first and grilled it nicely, and the sound alone was incredible... Once the pork belly began releasing fat, they laid the kimchi, minari and bean sprouts on the grill. This combo simply can't fail. The aroma of kimchi and minari soaked in pork fat rises up, and the smell alone is game over.

I think eating on the patio made it taste even better.
The pork belly that surprised me with one bite
The pork belly at Hwapyeongjip was far softer and juicier than I expected. When I finally took a bite, I thought, why is this so good? I always like pork belly, but this one was memorable.

Honestly, next time I'll probably order mostly pork belly instead of neck pork. That's how satisfied I was.
Wraps with perilla and lettuce, plus grilled kimchi and minari
With BBQ, wraps are a must. I wrapped it in perilla leaves, then in lettuce. Adding grilled kimchi and minari on top was really delicious. The mouthful was rich and full, the best.

The neck pork was clean and tasty too
The neck pork at Hwapyeongjip was clean-tasting and delicious too. It's just that the pork belly was so powerful, but the neck pork was plenty good, haha.

Still, my personal number one is the pork belly. If you're looking for patio pork BBQ near Banghwa Station, I strongly recommend the pork belly, haha.

Great patio mood, great meat, fair prices, and I even want to come back. If you're searching for patio pork BBQ near Banghwa Station, give Hwapyeongjip a try. I'm planning to go again soon for the pork belly, lol.
