Private cabin BBQ in Asan with a gas-grilled pork jowl set: Stay Green

In short

Stay Green Tourist Farm BBQ & Camp is a private-cabin barbecue spot and glamping site on Simin-ro 180beon-gil in Asan, Chungnam. On a weekday, two people booked the pork and hangjeongsal (pork jowl) set, grilled it on a Char-Broil gas grill, ate the included beef brisket doenjang stew with rice and free fried rice, then played badminton afterwards. For a private camping BBQ where you just turn up empty-handed, Stay Green Tourist Farm BBQ & Camp is a satisfying choice.

Stay Green is the hottest BBQ and glamping spot in Asan right now. I just visited, and it was the most pleasant, clean and friendly place I've been to, so I came home feeling happily healed 💜

Where is Stay Green BBQ in Asan and how do you get there?

Stay Green Tourist Farm BBQ & Camp (스테이그린 관광농원 바베큐앤 캠프) is at 71-1 Simin-ro 180beon-gil, Asan-si, Chungnam, and it has its own parking lot. The BBQ area is at the very top with the glamping site below it, so if you're only here for BBQ, head to the highest point.

The road in was a little tricky, but if you use your navigation and go slowly, you won't take a wrong turn!

What can you buy at the Stay Green shop?

The Stay Green shop building is right next to the parking lot, and you can buy extra food and dessert like snacks, ramyeon (instant noodles), instant rice, ice cream and coffee. There are also chargers, blankets and a microwave.

The moment you arrive and step into the shop, a kind owner greets you. You can book ahead, and on weekdays a same-day walk-in seems fine too! He explained how to use everything at Stay Green in detail, so we got to enjoy it even more 😆

If you book and visit, nearly everything is already prepared in your assigned private cabin, so you only need to move yourself. The shop handles extras like snacks, ramyeon, instant rice, ice cream and coffee in one stop 👍 With chargers, blankets and a microwave too, you really can just show up after booking. So easy!

There's a self-serve bar in each private BBQ cabin too, but just in case! If you need more, you can use the self-serve bar at the shop.

What pork does Stay Green use?

Stay Green BBQ uses fresh, aged Sunjin Pork hanjeon (Korean pork). Because the pork is aged, there's no gamey smell at all, which is the highlight.

All the meat is packed individually and kept in an aging fridge, which made me feel they manage things cleanly.

What are the private cabins at Stay Green like?

The private cabins are lined up one step down from the shop building, and you use a whole cabin by yourself. The front is like a fresh green yard, neatly kept, and it really has a proper camping mood!

My assigned cabin was Building D. It was right in front of the shop, which was convenient for using the restroom. The interior feels like a private pension in the woods, and since you get the whole cabin, it's perfect for families, especially with a baby. There's so much for kids to enjoy that you'd more than get your money's worth on the meat, haha.

Char-Broil gas grills: hard to burn the meat, even for beginners

Every cabin at Stay Green uses a Char-Broil gas grill. With charcoal BBQ the outside tends to burn, but a Char-Broil gas grill holds a steady temperature with no burning, so even beginners can easily get tasty meat.

The owner walks you through how to use it step by step, and it's not hard at all! Thanks to that I got to eat unburnt BBQ, and I was so excited, haha.

Inside the cabin: heating and air conditioning

The inside has a full-on camping-vibe interior ✨ From the props to every piece of furniture, it all feels camping-style, so it's the perfect setting for the mood. Heating and cooling work reliably so the weather doesn't affect you, and since the owner had turned it on in advance that day, we walked into a comfortable room.

Everything you need for the meal is already inside, so there's no going back and forth. You just grill the meat and that's it. A comfortable camping BBQ place this upscale and clean, where you barely have to move, is rare. It lives up to being the only premium private-cabin BBQ spot in Cheonan and Asan!

Free rice, ready in 15 minutes in the rice cooker

On a side table in the cabin there are dishes, utensils and a rice cooker. You don't need to buy instant rice because free rice is provided. Press the cook button and in 15 minutes you have fresh white rice...!

If you run out you can buy instant rice, but you probably won't. The two of us even made fried rice and still had rice left over.

What's in the Stay Green BBQ set, and how does it taste?

Meat and side dishes packed in the cooler bag

At Stay Green, the meat you chose when booking and the side dishes come in a big cooler bag. That felt totally like coming camping, and I thought it was a fun concept, haha.

  • Pork
  • Doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) meal kit
  • Vegetables
  • Sausages
  • Ssam greens (for wrapping)
  • Kimchi
  • Spring onion salad
  • Corn cheese
  • Water

It's like cute little playing house, lol.

Just set out the side dishes and move the ssam greens into a separate bowl, and the camping BBQ vibe is done, sooooo easy on the body with no hauling stuff around.

Beef brisket doenjang stew comes with the set

Stay Green includes a beef brisket doenjang stew meal kit as standard. Is this even real? 😭 You throw in all the ingredients, add 500ml of water, and boil. That's it.

Since it's a brisket doenjang stew, there's loads of meat in it, and it's properly spicy and tasty. They also add extra stew vegetables, so honestly just this alone could make me finish a bowl of rice in no time... 🤤

How to grill the pork and pork jowl set

I booked the pork and hangjeongsal (pork jowl) set. On the Char-Broil gas grill, close the lid and grill 3 minutes four times, flipping every 3 minutes. You get juicy, unburnt pork BBQ~!

While the stew boils, grill the meat and vegetables outside on the gas grill. Leave the corn cheese at the very back so you don't have to touch it. The meat was in great condition and cut thick, just the right thickness to lock the juices in.

The rice finished while the meat was grilling.

Free white rice cooked in the rice cooker

The insanely good beef brisket doenjang stew is done too.

And the BBQ is done... 🤤 The grill marks left on it look so delicious. When I cut one in half, the inside was full of juice and so moist 😭 The sausages and grilled vegetables were cooked just right too, and I realized there's a reason they use a Char-Broil gas grill. With a Char-Broil, even I'm a BBQ master.

The whole spread, all set... it's so dazzling.

Plenty of food for two

The Stay Green pork and hangjeongsal set is a lot for two people. I only grilled half the hangjeongsal and the meat was still overflowing, lol. But you have to finish what you grill, so let's dig in.

I cut it into bite-size pieces, but looking at it now I think I cut them a bit small 😭 What a shame. The air conditioning makes the room cool so the meat cools fast, but it was amazing that the texture didn't get hard. With just the right fat, both the pork belly and the hangjeongsal stayed juicy, so it's a combination that tastes good however you eat it and with whatever you pair it.

They gave us plenty of ssam greens too, which I loved. Such generosity... A premium private cabin plus top-quality pork plus a hearty portion: no reason not to go, and you'll surely be satisfied!

Best of all was of course the private cabin, haha. We could chat loudly without worrying about anyone, easily watch baseball on a tablet, and just enjoyed a proper healing camping trip.

Free fried rice to finish

At Stay Green you order fried rice at a kiosk, and it's free because it's part of the standard set. After you order, the owner brings seaweed flakes and cheese, and when you stir-fry it yourself it's absolutely delicious.

Cheese-filled meat fried rice...💜 Maybe because the atmosphere was so good, I overate more than usual; but no worries at all, because…

What facilities does Stay Green BBQ have?

Stay Green has a large open yard, badminton, a bouncy castle and sand play for kids, a newly opened pool, and a shower room in the shop building. Playing badminton helps digestion again. Then you can go back in and eat a bit more 😋

Outside there's even a spot that looks like something from an outdoor gear ad. While eating meat, a cat showed up, maybe smelling the food 😭 so cute.

While happily playing badminton to digest, the sun was slowly setting. When the sun goes down, this Asan BBQ place shows a new face. The glamping site lights up and turns into a sparkling night view.

With kids: bouncy castle and sand play

There are play options kids love, like the bouncy castle and sand play. I visited on a weekday so they weren't out, but I heard lots of families come with kids on weekends.

How do you use the Stay Green swimming pool?

To use the Stay Green pool, you need to reserve a pool table when booking, and you'll be assigned a table right next to the pool. You can eat meat, swim, and eat meat again, living like an immortal 😉

On the day I visited there was no water because it was being cleaned, but I heard it reopens that weekend. And you don't have to worry about cleanup after swimming, since the shop building has a separate shower room. You can shower after playing in the water and go home feeling fresh~
