Summer eel buffet in Ansan, self-serve kimchi jeon cups: Songnim Bok
In short
Songnim Bok Jangeo (송림복장어) Ansan City Hall Direct Store is a charcoal-grilled freshwater eel all-you-can-eat restaurant near Ansan City Hall in Gojan-dong, Ansan. The writer and a younger sibling ordered the all-you-can-eat for 2 adults as a summer stamina meal, grilling eel, duck neck and pork belly over charcoal, then helped themselves to fried eggs and cup-portioned kimchi jeon (kimchi pancake) from the self-serve corner. Songnim Bok Jangeo changed the mind of a writer who used to dislike eel, and its spacious 75-seat hall makes it a solid pick for group dinners.

I was wondering what to eat for summer stamina food, and my younger sister said she wanted eel. While searching for eel places nearby, I found Songnim Bok Jangeo Freshwater Eel All-You-Can-Eat Ansan City Hall Direct Store! Even though it's all-you-can-eat, the eel quality is great, the place is spacious, and the owner is kind. I was so satisfied that I'm writing this review right after getting back!

Why I recommend Songnim Bok for group dinners in Gojan-dong
Songnim Bok Ansan City Hall Direct Store is a fairly new all-you-can-eat freshwater eel spot near Ansan City Hall. The meal options are really good too, so it's actually busier at weekday lunch and dinner! A friend had been and said the eel quality was great, so it came to mind and I went with my sister, and

the place is really big and comfortable. That spacious, pleasant interior is one of the reasons I recommend it to anyone looking for a group dinner spot in Gojan-dong.
The tables are spaced widely, and stepping into that open space felt so refreshing... On top of that, there are fans all around the tables, so even in summer you can forget the heat and grill eel over charcoal to your heart's content!

The hall is big enough for up to 75 people, so it's perfect for group bookings or a team dinner in Gojan-dong.

All-you-can-eat for 2 adults: the set-up and how to grill eel
We ordered the all-you-can-eat for 2 adults. Along with the basic table setting, the owner brought three hearty kinds of meat: eel, duck neck and pork belly.

You all know you grill eel with the skin side facing the charcoal, right?

It turns golden brown, and meat really does look its best when grilled over charcoal.

Grill both sides well, cut it into bite-size pieces, then stand them up and grill the cut sides too, and out comes grilled eel with this golden, perfect look!
Dip it in the sauce they brought with the table setting and it's insanely good... I personally love that sauce, and I really liked that they brought the whole bowl so you can dunk generously without holding back!

Is it okay for people who dislike eel?
The eel at Songnim Bok was really soft, crispy outside and juicy inside. I actually had a not-so-great memory of eel from a time it had lots of tiny bones and tasted fishy, so I'd planned to focus on the pork belly and duck neck that come with it, but
after eating the eel at Songnim Bok Ansan City Hall, I completely changed my mind.

Does that mean the pork belly and duck neck were bad? Not at all. It was just proper barbecue-restaurant quality. I honestly couldn't believe how this Ansan City Hall eel place can run at this price.

Duck neck especially isn't a cut you find at many regular barbecue places, so I was extra happy to see it, and it tasted great too!

What's at the self-serve corner?
At the Songnim Bok Ansan City Hall self-serve corner, you can take the meats you're served, plus side dishes and ssam (wrap) vegetables, without feeling awkward about it.

Honestly, the price is so low that I didn't expect much quality, but it was so fresh and tasty that I hurried back for another refill. Since it's all-you-can-eat, you can eat tons without worrying about the price at Songnim Bok Ansan City Hall.
The best part is that even if you cut the pieces thick and big, it's all-you-can-eat, so you can take big bites without worry!

Fried eggs and kimchi jeon portioned by the cup
The self-serve corner even has a spot where you can make fried eggs and kimchi jeon (kimchi pancakes). I thought it would be great as a drinking snack, and good for feeding kids too.
On top of that, the kimchi jeon batter is portioned out one cup at a time, so you just pour and fry, which I thought was really thoughtful. It tasted good too, which made Songnim Bok Ansan City Hall even more satisfying.

Songnim Bok Ansan City Hall in one line
I can't believe eel can fill you up this much... Really good quality and delicious. If you're looking for an Ansan City Hall eel restaurant or a group dinner spot in Gojan-dong, I fully recommend Songnim Bok Freshwater Eel All-You-Can-Eat Ansan City Hall!
