Sinsa Chinese dinner with Asahi draft beer and xiaolongbao: Samsin
In short
Samsin Garosu-gil is a Korean-Chinese-Japanese fusion Chinese restaurant near the Garosu-gil entrance by Sinsa Station in Gangnam, Seoul, easy to spot by its tiled-roof facade. On a weekday evening the writer paired handmade xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) and a small Tokyo tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) with Asahi draft beer; the tangsuyuk stayed crispy under its sauce and the dumplings were full of juice. Samsin Garosu-gil is a good Sinsa Station pick for a Chinese meal with draft beer.

If you're looking for a Chinese restaurant near Garosu-gil, I recommend Samsin Garosu-gil, one of the good Chinese places around Sinsa Station. Here's my fresh review from a weekday evening visit. Let's go!
Where is Samsin Garosu-gil, and what are its hours?
Samsin Garosu-gil is at 46 Gangnam-daero 156-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on the 2nd and 3rd floors. It's open 11:00–23:00. Break time is 16:00–17:00 (15:00–17:00 on Mondays), and last order is 23:00 on Friday and Saturday and 22:00 Sunday through Thursday.
To get there, leave Sinsa Station by Exit 8, go straight, and turn left at the Garosu-gil entrance. You'll see the restaurant with its tiled-roof facade.

The unusual tiled-roof sign really catches your eye. Course meals start from the ₩20,000s, and as a fusion Chinese restaurant it has dishes to suit all ages and tastes.

What kind of Chinese restaurant is Samsin?
Samsin Garosu-gil is a Korean-Chinese-Japanese fusion restaurant with group seating for 75 and several private rooms. This is how the restaurant describes itself.
- Chinese food with the strengths of Korean and Japanese cooking added
- Most courses are carefully handmade for an extreme depth of flavor
- Korea's first Korean-Chinese-Japanese fusion restaurant, with Korean, Chinese and Japanese chefs working together
The drinks follow the same idea: Korean soju and beer, Japanese Asahi draft, Kirin draft and highballs, and Chinese baijiu, Tsingtao beer and Kongfu Jiu, all in several varieties.

Seating and table setting at Samsin Garosu-gil
The restaurant is split across floors. The upper floor has group seating and rooms, and the hall has round sofa seats that make for a comfortable meal.
When you sit down, the table is set up all fancy like this. Even the water was posh, with a jasmine(?) scent.

What does the Samsin chef recommend?
The chef's recommendations on the Samsin Garosu-gil menu are Mapo chawanmushi, Tokyo tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) and gochujang-minari dongpayuk (braised pork belly). Here are the menu descriptions.
- Mapo chawanmushi: a clever meeting of smooth steamed egg custard and tingly mapo tofu
- Tokyo tangsuyuk: the tangsuyuk version of a Tokyo steak, with sweet-and-sour sauce and butter on a hot stone plate
- Gochujang-minari dongpayuk: sous-vide pork coated in a special gochujang oyster sauce, steamed with fragrant minari (water dropwort)
There are also the Chinese-restaurant essentials, jajangmyeon (black bean noodles) and jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup).
- Galbi-jjim jajangmyeon: jajangmyeon topped with tender braised short ribs, hearty enough for a full meal
- Tebanaka meat jjamppong: a heavy, fire-flavored soup with chicken and beef broth, topped with savory fried chicken wings

Weekday dinner order: xiaolongbao, small Tokyo tangsuyuk and Asahi draft beer
The menu is huge, but I ordered the handmade xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) and a small Tokyo tangsuyuk. And Asahi draft beer too (!!!)

A Chinese restaurant that serves Asahi draft? Never seen one (!!!) Let me take a sip of the draft first.

How to eat Samsin's handmade xiaolongbao
Put the Samsin xiaolongbao on a spoon, then tear the wrapper slightly with your chopsticks and enjoy the juices.

Beer and dim sum are 🩵 love. Samsin Garosu-gil is a great dim sum spot.

Does the Tokyo tangsuyuk stay crispy with the sauce poured on?
Samsin's Tokyo tangsuyuk comes in a hot, sort of earthenware-pot(?) bowl, and you pour the sauce on right away. No dipping here. Tangsuyuk is meant to be poured, of course.

The sauce is poured on and it's still crispy;;; How?? Amazing. It was the small size, but it was plenty for two people as a beer snack.

Does Samsin Garosu-gil offer free corkage?
At Samsin Garosu-gil you can use a free corkage coupon through Naver's coupon feature. You can bring wine, whiskey or whatever drink you want to pair 🌝
I had one more draft beer. Chinese food and draft beer go really well together.

Mango coconut sorbet for dessert and the dining room atmosphere
Finish with mango coconut sorbet for dessert, and the whole thing, from meal to beer to dessert, is perfect.

The atmosphere is mint plus gold and brown, a combination you rarely see elsewhere. The restrooms are clean and inside the restaurant too, so I recommend Samsin Garosu-gil, a Sinsa Chinese restaurant that's perfect for a meal with drinks ⭐️
