Incheon abalone restaurant: Jangsu set and spicy pollack, Jeonbokchon

In short

Jeonbokchon (전복촌) is a Korean set-meal restaurant specializing in abalone, near Yesulhoegwan Station in Guwol-dong, Namdong, Incheon. The writer and her husband had the Jangsu set (장수정식) as a course: raw abalone and cooked abalone with yuja (Korean citron) sauce, seafood nurungji (scorched rice) soup, spicy braised pollack, fried shrimp, seaweed soup with rice, and a maesil plum drink. Jeonbokchon's Jangsu set, with tender abalone and a generous spread, is a satisfying choice for a family gathering or a restorative meal.

What is Jeonbokchon in Incheon, and how do you get there?

Jeonbokchon (전복촌) is an abalone specialist where you can enjoy all kinds of course meals and single dishes made with fresh abalone! It's a walk from Exit 1 of Yesulhoegwan Station, and with its big dining hall and private rooms, I highly recommend it for family gatherings, meetings with future in-laws, and company dinners~

No need to worry about parking either~! Besides the outdoor lot behind the restaurant, there's underground parking in the building and a vacant lot nearby!

Jeonbokchon's atmosphere and rooms: good for taking your parents?

The place feels upscale, and I thought, "This would be great for a parent's birthday!" ^^* There were actually lots of older diners at lunchtime! It's famous as an Incheon Korean set-meal restaurant, so I highly recommend it! It's close to Incheon City Hall too~~

  • Private rooms for 4–8 people!
  • Separate banquet rooms for 16–20 people!

Neat side dishes of the Jangsu set, including japchae

How does the first course of the Jangsu set come out at Jeonbokchon?

The first course of the Jangsu set arrives neatly laid out with abalone dishes and side dishes like japchae (glass noodle stir-fry)! The abalone is soft and chewy, so delicious! They say it's delivered straight from Wando every day, so of course it's fresh.. 💛 No fishy smell at all, just clean, and it goes great with chogochujang (sweet-spicy vinegar chili sauce) or soy sauce!

The japchae and the other side dishes and dishes are neatly put together too, so it's plenty for a meal! Overall the flavors are healthy and not harsh, and you get to try abalone in lots of ways, so it's a good Guwol-dong spot to visit when you're craving a stamina-boosting meal!

They say the Wando abalone used at Jeonbokchon has thick, springy flesh, and the more you chew, the more you taste its nutty richness and the freshness of the sea. Apparently the restaurant works hard to serve a healthy, restorative meal that brings out the flavor and nutrition of abalone, built on fresh ingredients.

Fresh raw abalone!

Cooked abalone with yuja sauce

Cooked abalone! The sweet-sour yuja (citron) sauce makes it even tastier!

Seasoned abalone in the Jeonbokchon Jangsu set

Seasoned abalone! Abalone porridge, seasoned abalone, abalone sashimi and so on, it's a lineup abalone lovers will adore~~ It's so good that I think it would be great for a family meal out, treating your parents, any kind of gathering or a special day!

Generous table for the second course of the Jangsu set

Second course of the Jangsu set: seafood nurungji soup, soy-marinated abalone, braised pollack and beef bulgogi

The second course of the Jangsu set is so generous too, right?~~ I like that they clear away the dishes from the first round once we've finished them~

Seafood nurungji soup with shrimp and squid

Seafood nurungji soup! And soy-marinated abalone (jeonbokjang).

Braised pollack in a spicy sauce

My husband's favorite: spicy braised pollack

Braised pollack (kodari-jorim)! My husband said this braised pollack was the highlight. He just loves fish so much.. haha The sauce is spicy, so he said when you're tired of abalone, this is what you want..

Beef bulgogi in the Jangsu set course

Beef bulgogi

Tender abalone dipped in its innards

My pick: abalone dipped in its innards, and seafood nurungji soup

Abalone! Dipped in its innards, it's absolutely heavenly. The biggest highlight was the seafood nurungji soup: you get to enjoy the scorched rice soaking up the broth and turning soft, it's packed with shrimp, squid and other seafood, and it isn't harsh, so anyone can enjoy it!

The fried shrimp had a great contrast between the crispy batter and the plump shrimp. The coating shatters crisply, and inside it's full of moist, bouncy shrimp meat, sooo delicious

For me, this abalone and the seafood nurungji soup were the highlights >.< The abalone was so tender that it practically vanished after two bites, which surprised me..

Seaweed soup and rice, the last part of the course

Finishing the Jangsu set with seaweed soup, rice and plum tea

The last part of the meal! At the end of the Jeonbokchon Jangsu set, you get seaweed soup and rice. Once you finish it all, you're so full..!

Plum drink to finish the Jangsu set

Finished off with plum tea~~

Verdict: is the Jangsu set at Jeonbokchon in Guwol-dong worth a visit?
