Cheongpyeong butcher: beef omakase and pork tomahawk, Ari Chuksan
In short
Ari Chuksan is a butcher shop in Cheongpyeong, Gapyeong, Gyeonggi, right next to Hanaro Mart. For a two-night, three-day barbecue at a pension by a valley, Ari Chuksan packed one pack of beef omakase, baekkopsal (pork navel cut) and a Korean pork tomahawk, and both the beef and the pork were good enough to eat well for two full days. It is an easy one-stop shop for barbecue meat for a Gapyeong or Cheongpyeong pension trip.

Cheongpyeong butcher shop Ari Chuksan, packing meat for a Gapyeong pension trip

This vacation wasn't originally supposed to include a Gapyeong trip~~ but since we unexpectedly ended up going to Gapyeong, I looked for a decent butcher shop around Gapyeong or Cheongpyeong and found Ari Chuksan~~ Before heading to the pension, I stopped by to pack pork and beef to eat there, and it was very satisfying!

Where is Ari Chuksan? One minute from Hanaro Mart in Cheongpyeong
Ari Chuksan is located near Hanaro Mart! I'd bought drinks and other food there and just came here for the meat — it's less than a minute's walk from Hanaro Mart, so accessibility is great!

Chilled lamb ribs, Australian wagyu, and all sorts of other cuts are for sale~! If you add their KakaoTalk channel as a friend, you get sale info sent right to you, which is nice.

Green onion salad for 500 won and wrap vegetables in one stop
I liked that all kinds of vegetables were cheap here too~~~ A lot of places don't give you sauce when you buy green onion salad (pachae), but here you get pachae with sauce included for just ₩500~~ On top of that, lettuce, peppers, mushrooms, and perilla leaves — all the vegetables that taste great with meat — were sold cheaper than the mart!

What meat Ari Chuksan sells, from tomahawk to lamb skewers
The variety of meat was also huge~ Back in the day, buying meat at a butcher shop usually meant just pork belly or beef! But here they sell tomahawk, pork tomahawk, kkodeulsal, baekkopsal, lamb ribs, lamb skewers, and more!

Beef omakase: no need to choose the cuts yourself
Buying beef by individual cut can also feel like a lot to figure out — but they had a menu where they pick out the tasty cuts for you, so I thought that was exactly what I needed and grabbed a pack of beef omakase too haha

Weekly events and ordering ahead on Naver
True to a trendy butcher shop, they run weekday events too~~ On Tuesdays they sometimes give out offal for free~ and Thursday is butchering day, when they sell yukhoe (raw beef) and sashimi and throw in free liver and beef tripe! With such generous freebies, I heard returning customers come back a lot.
If you apply for a reservation purchase on Naver before visiting~~ you get lettuce, green onion salad, salt, sauce and more provided! Next time I visit a Gapyeong or Cheongpyeong butcher shop, I think I'll book Ari Chuksan's place ahead of time~~

How the first night of valley pension barbecue tasted
We came back with a full haul from Ari Chuksan — omakase, baekkopsal (special cut), and Korean pork tomahawk haha. We grilled BBQ at the pension for two days straight, and since the meat we'd brought was so good~~ we ate way too much and were stuffed the whole time haha

The pension we stayed at for 2 nights and 3 days was right by a valley, and we grilled the meat at the barbecue spot set up in front of the valley — the meat quality was so good that the drinks went down way too smoothly.

I'd heard a lot of people call this place their all-time favorite for beef, and honestly the beef was such good quality and so tasty that I was really happy!

Day two at the pension: baekkopsal and pork tomahawk
On day one we ate beef, and on day two we grilled baekkopsal and pork tomahawk and shared(?) with Gureum — and surprise, the pork was just as delicious as the beef, which really caught me off guard!!

Maybe that's why so many people who live far away and happen to pass through Gapyeong or Cheongpyeong end up reordering by courier delivery afterward, apparently haha

After Kkulssi and I finished eating the pork tomahawk, I grilled the leftover bits well and pulled the meat off the bone for Gureum, who ate it up happily! I heard this place's seasoned meats (like jeyuk or bulgogi-style) are also popular besides raw meat, so now I'm curious how those taste too.

We seem to visit Gapyeong or Cheongpyeong about once every year or two, and now I don't need to think about where to buy meat next time! I'll just use Ari Chuksan, the Gapyeong butcher shop. I received some sponsorship covering part of the cost, but I was really satisfied 👍
✔️ If you're visiting Gapyeong or Cheongpyeong and looking for a place to pack meat!
