Sokcho market crab takeout with plastic-wrapped shells: Yes Susan
In short
Yes Susan (예스수산) is a couple-run takeout shop selling cleaned red snow crab lunchboxes on the ground floor of Sokcho Jungang Market (Tourist Seafood Market) in Sokcho, Gangwon. The writer took a 2-crab red snow crab lunchbox set picked out by the owner and a flying fish roe fried rice set back to the lodging, and because Yes Susan wrapped each crab shell separately in plastic wrap, not a drop of the innards leaked on the way. Even people who skip crab because cracking it is a hassle can have an easy red snow crab feast at their stay with Yes Susan's cleaned crab lunchboxes.

If you go to Sokcho, you have to try red snow crab full of ocean flavor! 🦀 Today I visited Yes Susan (예스수산), a shop in Sokcho Central Market that's famous by word of mouth for its crab. They sell prepped red snow crab lunchbox sets you can eat right away with no fuss, so for a party at your lodging on a trip, it really doesn't get better. Let's go, here's my first-hand review of Yes Susan and its freshness!
Where is Yes Susan in Sokcho, and when is it open?
Yes Susan is at Unit 124, 1st floor, Sokcho Tourist Seafood Market, 16 Jungangno 147beon-gil, Sokcho, Gangwon, South Korea. It is open daily from 10:30 to 20:30 and closed every Tuesday.

Head into the small alley across from the place in Sokcho market famous for its sool-ppang (steamed rice-wine bread) with the long line, and there's Yes Susan! I just put it into Naver Map and found it.

Finally here!

Whoa! The moment I arrived there were so many red snow crabs! Hahaha. The origin sign says the owner is from Sokcho 🤣

How do you order a red snow crab lunchbox at Yes Susan?
You can order the red snow crab lunchbox by phone, or go to the shop and pick it out in person. I visited to choose it myself. The crabs come nicely packed in sets of 2–3, so you just pick one and they can pack it right away.

Separately from the crab lunchbox, they also sell a flying fish roe fried rice set! It comes with stir-fried kimchi and jeotgal (salted fermented seafood) as side dishes, which go perfectly with it 🥹 The owner clearly knows his food, haha.

There were lots of takeout customers so the owner was busy, haha. The couple runs it together and both of them are super kind 🥰 While I was hesitating, the owner said he'd pick a good one for me, came out himself and chose the crabs!

The owner carefully picked only crabs with a good meat yield, so I could buy with confidence. I got the 2-crab lunchbox set plus the fried rice set and asked for it to be packed to go!

How does Yes Susan pack the takeout?
Yes Susan puts the crab lunchbox in a sturdy cooler bag and even includes hygiene gloves. The owner packs it carefully, and hahahaha, the character on the payment terminal looks so much like the owner that I just burst out laughing.

That's how carefully they pack it into the cooler bag. The bag is so sturdy it feels like a waste to throw it away after one use.

Oh, and try the event where you write a Naver review and get free fried rice!

They even included hygiene gloves, which I never expected. Seriously so thoughtful!!! 👍🏻
Do the crab innards leak on the way to your lodging?
Yes Susan wraps the crab shells separately in plastic wrap, so not a drop of innards leaked on the way to the lodging. As soon as I got there I excitedly unpacked the lunchbox and was amazed that nothing had leaked from the shells. It turns out the owner had carefully wrapped each shell separately, so I carried it all the way back clean without spilling anything!

Haha, the wrap was done so well I didn't even notice it was wrapped…🤣

How were the crab lunchbox and the flying fish roe fried rice?
The flying fish roe fried rice at Yes Susan came topped with crab meat, and the portion was big. I put stir-fried kimchi and jeotgal on top 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 so nutty and delicious.

And haha, the crab meat is already prepped, so you just pull it right out.

Honestly, I usually don't go for foods like red snow crab or king crab that are a hassle to pick the meat out of and prep. But Yes Susan prepped all the crab so it's easy to eat, so I could enjoy it comfortably without any fuss, and I was really satisfied!

And I mixed the rich innards into my rice too, haha.

Is takeout better value than eating at a restaurant?
Eating at a crab specialty restaurant is often pricey, but taking Yes Susan's crab back to enjoy at my lodging made for a much better-value crab party, and I loved that!

If you want to enjoy sea-fresh red snow crab with no prep worries and great value, I really recommend Yes Susan in Sokcho Central Market! Thanks to the owner's careful touch, I could have a neat, comfortable crab party at my lodging. If you're planning a Sokcho trip, do stop by, go with light hands and leave with a full heart and some tasty crab! 🦀
Can you leave your luggage at Sokcho Central Market?
Yes Susan offers a free luggage storage service for travelers. We've all struggled with heavy bags while shopping at Sokcho Central Market, right..?! To ease that hassle for travelers, Yes Susan provides free luggage storage, so keep it in mind when you visit!
