Dongtan Korean soup restaurant, mild herbal gomtang set: Baekok
In short
Baekok Dongtan is a Korean pork gomtang (pork bone soup) restaurant in the basement 1 (B1) dining area of Lotte Department Store Dongtan in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. The writer ordered the yakgomtang (herbal pork gomtang) set, which came with cabbage dumplings, kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) and pickled vegetables. Despite its name, the broth was clear and light rather than strongly herbal, and adding green onion brought out more flavor. For anyone who wants a mild, non-spicy bowl of gukbap (soup with rice), Baekok Dongtan is an easy solo meal during a shopping trip.

This is a review of a gomtang (Korean soup) spot in Dongtan that won me over with its mild broth. Today I visited Baekok Dongtan, located on the basement food court floor of Lotte Department Store Dongtan branch. I love gukbap (soup with rice) normally, so I went in with high hopes, and the clean broth and tender meat gave me a satisfying meal.

Baekok Dongtan location — B1 of Lotte Department Store Dongtan
Baekok Dongtan is on the basement floor of Lotte Department Store Dongtan branch, so it's easy to grab a meal while shopping.

The restaurant itself was clean, and there were plenty of solo diners, so it felt easy to walk in alone.

Ordering the yaggomtang set: herbal pork soup + cabbage dumplings
I ordered the yaggomtang (herbal pork soup) set that day. It comes with yaggomtang and cabbage dumplings together, so it felt like a full meal.

Baekok apparently aims for a non-spicy, non-heavy pork soup style. I was struck by the idea of a flavor you could eat every day without getting tired of it.

Review event and kids' gukbap at ₩7,000
There was also a review event running. Write a Naver Place review and they give you one of their popular cabbage dumplings. They also have a separate kids' gukbap menu for ₩7,000, so bringing kids along isn't a worry.

Takeout is also available, so it seemed good for enjoying at home or as a quick office lunch.

Parking — up to 4 hours free at Lotte Department Store
Lotte Department Store parking is also available. Depending on your same-day purchase amount, you can get up to 4 hours of free parking, so driving in is convenient too.
Baekok Dongtan's location on B1 of Lotte Department Store Dongtan made it a great stop before or after shopping. The restaurant overall had a modern, clean atmosphere, and the seats weren't cramped together. I saw solo diners, families, and office workers alike, so if you're looking for a Korean restaurant in Dongtan, I think this is an easy place to visit.

The yaggomtang set spread and basic side dishes
Here's the yaggomtang set I ordered. It came out neatly with the soup, cabbage dumplings, kkakdugi, pickles, and sauce. The presentation alone felt tidy.

The basic side dishes were kkakdugi, pickles, and a seasoning sauce. There weren't many side dishes, but they paired well with the soup, so nothing felt lacking. The kkakdugi especially had a crunchy texture with just the right tang, which worked well with the mild yaggomtang. Depending on taste, you can add more sauce or pepper for a richer flavor.

The yaggomtang broth — not strongly herbal at all
I tried a spoonful of the broth first, and unlike what the name suggests, it wasn't strongly herbal — it was clean with a deep savoriness. The broth was clear and mild, so I never got tired of it even by the end.
The meat was generous and boiled soft enough to chew easily. Adding green onion brought the flavor to life even more.

The cabbage dumplings in the set
The cabbage dumplings that came with it were also satisfying. The wrapper was thin and the filling was moist, pairing well with the soup.

Dipped in the sauce, they get a mild, subtle sweetness added on top — I'd recommend them as a side.

Good for solo dining or a quick lunch?
Looking around at the other tables while eating, I saw solo diners, families, and office workers of all ages having a meal. The menu is mostly gomtang and pork gukbap, so it seemed like a configuration everyone could enjoy without much fuss. Service was fairly quick too, so it seemed well-suited for office workers looking for lunch in Dongtan or anyone wanting a simple but filling meal.

If you prefer a mild, clean-style soup over a heavily seasoned gukbap, this place would satisfy you. It's great for solo dining and a solid, filling meal while shopping, so if you're looking for somewhere to eat at Lotte Department Store Dongtan branch, it might be worth a visit.
