Olla Poke Munjeong Main Branch is a poke and salad shop on B1 of Terra Tower Building A, near Munjeong Station in Songpa, Seoul. After starting a Mounjaro diet plan, the writer picked up a steak poke (14,500 won) with added avocado (3,500 won) to go on the way home from work, and liked the plump avocado, the lean, trimmed steak and the wasabi mayo sauce. With calorie counts on its menu, Olla Poke Munjeong Main Branch is a Munjeong Station poke shop where you can eat well and leave full while dieting.

Sokcho Korean restaurant for a pre-golf breakfast: Daecheongmaru

Daecheongmaru (대청마루) is a two-story hanok (traditional Korean house) restaurant on Gwangwang-ro in Sokcho, Gangwon, specializing in soft tofu and dried pollack, and it opens at 7:20 a.m. A regular who has stopped at Daecheongmaru on every Sokcho trip for 5 years went early with her mom over the Memorial Day holiday for chodang sundubu (soft tofu stew, ₩14,000) and hwangtae haejangguk (dried pollack soup, ₩15,000). She also covers grilled pollack, acorn jelly and mountain herb bibimbap from earlier visits. Verdict: if you want a breakfast spot where even the free side dishes are delicious, Daecheongmaru is a sure pick.

Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang Garak Flagship (진성한우곱창 가락본점) is a Hanwoo beef gopchang (small intestine) restaurant in Garak-dong, Songpa, Seoul, open since 2009. A regular of more than 15 years returned after a month, coming with her husband after work, and ate grilled gopchang, daechang and makchang, followed by kkakdugi yangbap (tripe fried rice with radish kimchi) and janchi guksu (warm noodle soup). Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang Garak Flagship still prices gopchang in the ₩10,000s, and from the mains to the sides there is nothing on the menu to skip.

Korean BBQ for work dinners in Munjeong: pork jowl at Insaengdwaeji

Insaengdwaeji Songpa Branch (인생돼지 송파본점) is a Korean pork BBQ restaurant where staff grill the meat for you, on basement level 1 of Songpa Prugio City between Munjeong and Jangji stations in Songpa, Seoul. Booking a 5:30pm table before a Chuseok holiday trip abroad, the writer ordered two servings of pork neck and one of pork jowl, plus steamed egg, cold kimchi noodle soup, doenjang stew and kimchi stew, and even though the writer had never liked pork neck, its juiciness and tenderness won the writer over. With wide table spacing and staff-grilled meat, Insaengdwaeji Songpa Branch is a solid pick for company dinners and group gatherings.
