Anyang brunch café for kids on school break: truffle soup at Notten

Notten (노튼) is a brunch and specialty coffee café on the Dongpyeon-maeul café street in Anyang, Gyeonggi. On a school-holiday morning with her kids, the writer tried four items at Notten: seasonal campagne French toast, mushroom cream soup, a Korean wheat bread plate with pork neck bacon, and chocolate ice cream choux. With a lawn view through floor-to-ceiling windows and mild dishes the kids happily ate, Notten was a restful break for a mum tired of cooking three meals a day.

Sannae Sutbul Galbi Bakdal Branch is a newly opened charcoal-grilled galbi restaurant in Bakdal-dong, Anyang, near Bakdal Market, specializing in seasoned pork galbi made with Korean-raised pork (Handon). On a visit with two kids, the writer ordered seasoned pork galbi, pork skin and cold naengmyeon (chilled noodles), and staff brought a baby chair, kids' meal trays with spoons and forks, and organic apple juice unprompted. Grilled by the tips posted on the wall, the pork galbi came out glossy and unburnt, making Sannae Sutbul Galbi Bakdal Branch a great galbi spot in Bakdal-dong to visit with kids.

Namiseom Anbanji Dakgalbi is a charcoal-grilled dakgalbi (spicy grilled chicken) restaurant two minutes' walk from the Nami Island pier in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi. On day two of a Gapyeong trip, after checking out of the hotel, the writer had the original salt-grilled charcoal dakgalbi with cheese fondue and buckwheat mak guksu, then used the 6-hour free parking ticket that comes with a meal to leave the car and walk straight over to Nami Island. Namiseom Anbanji Dakgalbi is a smart pick for travelers who want good food and an easy route in one stop.
