In short
Solsot Sangam Branch is a Korean restaurant specializing in pot rice (sotbap), located on basement level 1 of DDMC in Sangam, Mapo, Seoul. Attention, anyone looking for a Sangam restaurant that works for a family gathering!!!! The pot rice is so tasty and neatly served that it suits family meals, and it's also great for Sangam office workers at lunch or dinner. I went to Solsot Sangam Branch (솔솥 상암점). The hot pot rice came with a pretty generous amount of steak and abalone, which is totally my taste haha. Here's my honest review of a meal I was happy with :)

Where is Solsot Sangam Branch, and where do you park?
Solsot Sangam Branch is in the basement level 1 of DDMC in Sangam, and parking is supported in the DDMC building's underground car park. So convenient if you come by car!!!

What are the seats like for family gatherings and office dinners?
Besides the main hall, Solsot Sangam Branch has a slightly separated space further inside that's roomy and clean. The main hall was quite crowded even on a weekend, so I couldn't take photos there and only shot the inner space, but it seems fine for a family gathering in Sangam or an office lunch or group meal.!!!

What is on the menu at Solsot Sangam Branch?
There are tons of pot rice types at Solsot Sangam Branch: steak, sea bream scallop, abalone, eel, cockle, salmon, lobster shrimp and more. Check the menu photos!! It gives off health-food vibes haha. I think parents would love it too. You can also add extra toppings on their own, so if you feel the topping amount is too small, adding more sounds good!!

For sides there are fried dishes and even Asahi draft beer!!! I see pork cutlet, shrimp tempura and yurinchi (crispy fried chicken with sweet-sour sauce) too.

Pick-and-choose set for two: what's in it and the price
The pick-and-choose set for two at Solsot Sangam Branch includes 2 pot rice dishes, 1 side and a drink! Our combo was steak pot rice, abalone pot rice, yurinchi and a Coke Zero, for a set price of ₩42,400!
Look how neatly a single pot rice comes out!!! It includes salad, side dishes, yogurt and doenjang (soybean paste) soup~!

How to eat Solsot pot rice for the best taste
With Solsot pot rice, you mix the rice, scoop it all into your bowl, pour broth into the pot and close the lid to make nurungji (scorched rice), which you eat last. The instructions were posted there. The broth isn't just hot water; they say it's made with mackerel powder and anchovy. Maybe that's why it tasted so nutty and rich.

How does the steak pot rice taste?
The steak pot rice at Solsot Sangam Branch comes with steak, scallion, egg yolk and butter. Ta-daaa~~~ the steak pot rice looks insane ㅠㅠㅠㅠ I mixed it well, scooped it into my bowl and took a bite right away. The rice was fluffy and nutty, and the steak was tender and juicy. Honestly a dream combo!!

How does the abalone pot rice taste?
The abalone pot rice at Solsot Sangam Branch mainly has rice, scallion, sesame, egg, butter and abalone, and there's quite a lot of abalone. The abalone pot rice is insane too. It had a nuttier aroma and richer flavor than the steak pot rice, and the abalone texture was so good!!!!!!!!

A plain spoonful with nothing added is already nutty and delicious; with the soy sauce that comes alongside it has great savory depth; add a little of the salted seafood (jeotgal) that comes with it and you get an even richer taste; and there's seaweed too, which is amazing wrapped around a bite!!!! The abalone texture was just so good.

How is the set's side dish, yurinchi?
The yurinchi included in the set for two was nicely fried and crispy too. The sweet-sour sauce goes sooo well with it!

The best bite and the nurungji finish
My favorite bite at Solsot Sangam Branch was a piece of steak from the steak pot rice, lightly dipped in sauce with a little wasabi on top!!
Hehe, now it's nurungji time~~ scrape the nurungji in the broth you poured in earlier and eat it. The savory depth of this broth is no joke???hahahahahaha I cleaned the plate, nurungji and all.
From pot rice to nurungji, Solsot was absolutely perfect~~ If you're looking for a Sangam restaurant for a family gathering, give Solsot Sangam Branch a visit :)
