Anguk udon spot for an after-work date: house-made tsuyu, Jemyeonso

It's already so hot out, ugh! I left work early this week and went to hang out in Insadong, and I found a great cold udon place inside Annyeong Insadong!!
It's Insadong Jemyeonso Annyeong Insadong Branch (인사동제면소 안녕인사동점). They make their tsuyu (noodle dipping broth) by hand, a real deal of a place, and it was seriously clean-tasting and the noodles were crazy chewy...

It's open daily from 10:30 to 21:00, and you can use the building's parking lot, but it's paid.
Where is Insadong Jemyeonso Annyeong Insadong Branch, and how's the parking?
The restaurant is on the 3rd floor of the Annyeong Insadong building, and the building's parking lot costs ₩1,000 per 10 minutes. You can't go to Insadong without stopping by Annyeong Insadong, right?? While looking for a place to eat in Insadong, we naturally ended up there!

It's on the 3rd floor of the super-trendy Annyeong Insadong building, so it was easy to find.

It's close to Ikseon-dong too, so I'd recommend it if you're looking for somewhere to eat around there. You can park in the building's lot, but it can get crowded on weekends, there's no parking support, and it's ₩1,000 per 10 minutes, so personally I'd recommend public transport.

Atmosphere and facilities inside
The interior has a clean Japanese-style look and the tables are spaced widely, so it was great for a date ✨ The moment we walked in, it felt neat and tidy.

There are coat hangers for your jacket, and baby chairs and children's tableware are ready too!

The menu and free rice refills
There's a wide variety of udon, plus soba and rice bowls (donburi), so you have lots of choices. And attention, big eaters!! If each person orders one menu item, you get free rice refills!!! The value is insane.

You order at the table, and since Insadong has so many foreign travelers, the menu really comes in a ton of different languages, haha.

How much is the set for two?
The sets for two start at ₩29,000, and a set comes with a side and a cola too, so good 👍 After some debate we ordered the tempura cold udon set plus a steak bowl. With the extra charge for the steak bowl it came to ₩32,500. The lineup felt like proper Insadong food.
How was the tempura cold udon set?
The tempura cold udon set was the best dish of this visit: chewy noodles and a really clean broth. It's gotten hot lately and I was craving something cold. I kept going back and forth between soba and udon, and picked cold udon, and it was totally the right call. (But I'm curious about the soba too...)

I already love cold udon, and this one is the real deal..! The noodles are really chewy with a springy bite, and the broth is super clean.

My only regret is that I can't capture how crazy chewy the noodles are in words... My boyfriend said he doesn't like cold udon, but after trying it he said it was good and kept stealing(?) mine, hahaha. The tempura was crispy too, so it's a perfect combo with the cold udon! It came with 2 shrimp and a kabocha squash tempura.

When you order the cold udon set, rice comes with it like this, and the flavor isn't harsh but makes you keep eating. A definite yes for a great Insadong restaurant.

How was the steak bowl?
The steak bowl was better than expected, with tender, non-chewy grilled beef.

Honestly I didn't expect much, but it was quietly a hit.. The steak wasn't tough at all and was grilled tender, and eating it with the rice was pure heaven 🤤

The sauce isn't overpowering either, so it lets the flavor of the beef shine. It felt like a cozy, Ikseon-dong-style meal.

Fried shrimp isn't included with the bowl by default; we got extra shrimp tempura because we ordered the set for two. What can I say about the shrimp tempura, crispy and juicy, the best combo 😍

A cola comes with it too, so it's perfect as a date course. I think it's good value even among the restaurants in Annyeong Insadong!
Why I recommend Insadong Jemyeonso Annyeong Insadong Branch
- A real deal soba and udon place in Insadong
- Top value for money
- Recommended as a date course
- A noodle shop, yet with a varied menu including rice bowls
- The menu is available in several languages, so it's great for bringing foreign friends
I really recommend the set for two, and you absolutely have to order the cold udon, haha. On weekends, expect a wait!

Honestly, the quality was good enough that from now on, when I think of udon in Insadong, Insadong Jemyeonso comes to mind right away. It's also a good pick combined with Annyeong Insadong on an Ikseon-dong outing, and I'd go back 💯 Next time I want to try the soba, so I'll be visiting again 😆
