Couple's Jungmun black pork BBQ at drum-barrel tables: Kkamang Dwaeji
In short
Kkamang Dwaeji Jungmun Branch is a black pork restaurant near the Jungmun Tourist Complex in Seogwipo, Jeju, grilling fresh, never-frozen pork over hardwood charcoal. A couple on a Jeju trip stopped in for lunch and chose ogyeopsal (five-layer pork belly), which the owner took from the aging room and pre-seared over charcoal so it came out crisp outside and juicy inside. They also had the lunch-special kimchi stew and doenjang stew, an extra bibim guksu and the complimentary cheese steamed egg. With hip drum-barrel tables and a self-bar, Kkamang Dwaeji Jungmun Branch is a satisfying Korean BBQ meal on a Jungmun trip.

Want a proper BBQ spread on your Jeju trip? Let me introduce Kkamang Dwaeji Jungmun Branch (까망돼지 중문점), one of Jungmun's best-known black pork spots. My husband and I stopped by during our trip, and it was so much better than expected that I had to write it down 🐷

Where is Kkamang Dwaeji Jungmun Branch, and is there parking?

The restaurant is near the Jungmun Tourist Complex, so it's an easy stop on a Jeju trip. It's on the first floor of a white building with a huge black pig sign out front, so it's not hard to find. There's plenty of parking in front, and the lot is paved with blocks, so rain wasn't a big problem. Even the restaurant's vehicle has a big Kkamang Dwaeji logo, so you can't miss it.
It has also been featured on SBS's Live Today (생방송 투데이), and a framed photo from the broadcast hangs inside. It made me trust the place a bit more 😄 They said it was introduced in an episode titled "Premium Eats, Kkamang Dwaeji – Black Pork Edition."
Drum-barrel tables: the interior and atmosphere at Kkamang Dwaeji

The style is industrial: black drum-barrel tables and chairs plus ventilation hoses on the ceiling. The unusual interior caught my eye the moment I walked in. Hoses spread across the ceiling like a spider web, and the walls are covered in pop-art graffiti murals of Spider-Man, Iron Man, dinosaurs and more, so the vibe is really hip and full of character 😊
I thought the drum-barrel seats might be uncomfortable at first, but the seat height was better than I expected. Each table has a hole for the grill and a direct-fire grill set in the middle. The lighting is soft and the whole place has a moody feel, even though we came for lunch 👍
How to join the Kkamang Dwaeji waiting list with CatchTable
Use the Catchtable machine at the entrance. Enter your phone number and you get a KakaoTalk message about your turn. If there's a wait, you can also cancel or push back your turn from that message. We came a little after the lunch rush and got in right away 🤗
Kkamang Dwaeji's aging room and the black pork itself
The most impressive thing was the aging room on one side of the restaurant! Through clear glass you can see Jeju black pork aging in a refrigerated unit. Next to it, another fridge with pink lighting holds more meat. They take the meat out and grill it on the spot, which made me trust its freshness.
The pork belly came out as two thick slices on a gold tray, looking plump and pretty. The intramuscular fat typical of Jeju black pork was well distributed, and the marbling was lovely. As a charcoal-grilled raw black pork specialist, the quality of the meat was really good 🔥
How did the charcoal-seared black pork belly taste?

The owner pre-sears the meat over direct charcoal fire for you!! Maybe because it's charcoal, the aroma was wonderful. That savory smell of the meat cooking... I honestly couldn't resist 😂
The grilled pork belly was crispy outside and juicy inside. A staff member cut it into bite-size pieces with scissors, and since I love wraps, I piled lettuce with myeongi namul (pickled wild greens), ssambu (pickled radish wraps), ssamjang (dipping paste) and garlic, added a piece of pork and ate it in one big bite. This is real happiness 😍

Grill the bracken (gosari, fernbrake) alongside the meat too, it's so good! It keeps the distinctive aroma of Jeju bracken, and the pork fat soaks in, making it even more savory. A light dip of the meat in the grilling sauce (a spicy seasoned sauce) has its own charm.
The meljeot (salted fermented anchovy sauce), myeongi namul and the other side dishes, even the pickled onion, all went wonderfully with the meat. You can choose between neck and pork belly, and we love pork belly, so we went with that :)
Kkamang Dwaeji side dishes and self-bar
Many side dishes come as standard, and at the self-bar you can take wraps vegetables and side dishes as much as you like. The table was set with kimchi, seaweed salad, pickled cucumber, bracken namul, corn salad, braised mushrooms, pickled onion, sauces and more.
The self-bar has kimchi, corn, lettuce, perilla leaves, bracken, myeongi namul, ssambu, ssamjang, garlic and more. With a self-bar, you can eat comfortably without worrying about refills. The stainless-steel tray-style utensils were neatly arranged too.
Lunch-special kimchi stew and doenjang stew at Kkamang Dwaeji

We ordered the lunch special: I had the kimchi stew and my husband had the doenjang (soybean paste) stew. The kimchi stew had a rich, red, spicy broth, packed with tofu, kimchi and pork, and the portion was bigger than I expected. The broth was hot and deep, so a sip between bites of meat is a dream combo. It came with rice too, a multigrain rice mixed with black rice, nutty and healthy-feeling 😋
My husband's doenjang stew came bubbling in an earthenware pot, loaded with tofu, scallions, mushrooms and meat, with a deep, savory broth. A spoonful between bites of grilled meat really settles your stomach, you know? That rich, savory broth was so good 👍

Extra order: bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles)
This was the dish that surprised me most! I never expected the bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles) we added to be this good. It came in a big stainless-steel bowl, a generous portion, piled with myeongi namul. It was topped with half a boiled egg and ssambu, with sesame seeds sprinkled over. The sauce was sweet, tangy and savory. A few bites of bibim guksu to finish after the meat was the perfect ending 👍

The complimentary cheese steamed egg
The cheese steamed egg (gyeran-jjim) that comes by default was also incredibly good 😉 They must not skimp on real cheese, because it stretched with every spoonful, haha. Kids would absolutely love it 🔥
