Rooftop infinity pool café in Hopo, Yangsan: floor tour at Choi

In short

Bakery & coffee CHOI (Choi Main Branch) is a large bakery café on the Nakdong River in Hopo, Yangsan, Gyeongnam, where the whole building is the café: ordering on the 1st floor, the bakery on the 2nd, a lounge on the 3rd and a rooftop with an infinity pool reflecting the river and mountains. The writer toured each floor and tried a cream dessert, a heart-shaped strawberry mousse cake, a chocolate chip cookie and free tofu cracker samples. Choi in Yangsan suits anyone who wants rooftop views and a different mood on every floor in a single visit.

Is parking easy at Choi in Yangsan?

Choi has its own parking lot, so you can visit without worrying about parking. You can park on 1F and B1F inside the building, and there were also several spaces by the café entrance.

Photo of the dedicated parking lot at Choi in Yangsan

I'm always going places by car, so parking is the first thing I worry about, and I honestly wondered if this place would have no spots either, but whoa~~ there's a dedicated lot!! Looks like a group of people could visit comfortably too!! 🔥

The scale of Choi hits you the moment you walk in

Interior of Choi, which uses the whole building as a café
Spaces on each floor of Choi
Indoor seating area at Choi

The whole building at Choi is used as a café: the rooftop, the 3F lounge and sunset garden, the 2F terrace and bakery, and ordering and parking on 1F🏢 It felt like two or three ordinary cafés rolled into one?! My expectations shot up right from the start😆

Head up to 2F and you reach a seating zone where big windows show green trees, the road and, far off, the mountain ridge🌳 Clear acrylic chairs make the space look even wider and brighter. On a sunny day I bet this seat is a total photo-of-your-life spot📸

Choi's 3F lounge feels like a hotel lounge

The 3F at Choi is a lounge with black leather sofas and purple and blue acrylic tables. The mountains spread right outside the window and the interior is trendy too, so it felt like sitting in a hotel lounge🖤 Isn't that kind of unfair? The CHOI logo on the pillar was worked in nicely as a design touch, too.

There's also a private space hung with chandeliers, and the mix of black-toned decor and glamorous crystal chandeliers felt oddly luxurious, so I stared at it for a long time✨ There's also a tiered seating zone with exposed concrete and wood-toned seats as accents, which felt more like a gallery than a café🖼️

I couldn't skip the restroom either: rough stone walls and black sinks go well together, and you can tell they sweated every detail🚿 There was also a zone with blankets and cushions neatly stacked, which I guess you can borrow when it's chilly on the rooftop or terrace🧣 Every time I see this kind of thoughtfulness I like a place even more.

Choi's rooftop infinity pool is the real highlight

The peak of Choi was the rooftop infinity pool😳 The Nakdong River, the bridge and the mountains reflect on the water, and instead of parasols you can borrow pastel umbrellas for free.

At the entrance there's a "Choi Rooftop" sign with notes on returning your tray, glass railing safety, no smoking anywhere, and even a safety warning not to throw stones(!). It was impressive that, since parasols are hard to set up, they let you borrow pastel umbrellas freely instead☂️ Pink, lavender and blue umbrellas hang side by side, and the sight alone makes you want to take photos🩵💗

Step onto the rooftop and you first see tiered bench seating, a mix of concrete and wood, so it's natural to settle in and enjoy the view. Then walk to the far end and… ta-da, the infinity pool🎉 The Nakdong River, the bridge and the mountains wrapped around like a folding screen all reflect on the water, and it was so pretty a photo can't capture it💦 There's gravel underfoot and the view is wide open beyond the glass railing, so just standing there felt healing🌤️

Is Choi's rooftop a no-kids zone?

Yes, the rooftop at Choi is a no-kids zone. I think it's because of the glass railing safety, but the indoor floors (1F to 3F) have high chairs, so families with children can still use the café👶 I thought dividing the spaces by concept so clearly was reasonable :)

Choi desserts: cream dessert, heart strawberry mousse cake, chocolate chip cookie

The desserts at Choi were as good as the view! On a silver tray was a thin, crisp caramelized pastry sheet topped with layers of choux dough dusted with powdered sugar like snow. Inside it was filled with custard cream, finished off freshly with blueberries and raspberries🫐 One bite gives you crisp, fluffy and tangy all at once, so I kept reaching for more.

Next to it was a heart-shaped strawberry mousse cake, with a bright red velvet coating topped with white daisy decorations, a total eye-catcher from the looks alone🍓 It also had a crunchy base, so the textural contrast was good. And the chocolate chip cookie can't be skipped! A classic American-style cookie, crisp outside and moist inside, with big chunks of chocolate, so even one piece was pretty filling🍪

Crunchy, nutty tofu snack sample

You can sample the tofu snack (tofu-based crackers) at the Choi counter, so I tried it!! It was really nutty and crunchy, a little salty? and really good haha. I'd eaten way too much bread by then so I didn't buy any this time, but next time I'll definitely get some haha.

Choi's self-packing station and attentive service

Self-packing station at Choi

Choi has a self-packing station for taking leftover bread home and a microwave for warming bread. Notices from where things are to how to return your tray are posted carefully, so even first-timers won't get confused📋 Having a microwave so you can eat your bread warm felt like a thoughtful touch too.

Choi's summer review event

Choi happened to be running a summer review event when I visited! You ask for a receipt after your visit, search "Bakery Choi" (베이커리 초이) on Naver, Google or Kakao Map, leave a review, and show it to a staff member to get a special menu item🎁 Worth knowing if you're planning a visit!

Who I'd recommend Choi in Yangsan to

  • Anyone looking for a café drive near Busan
  • Anyone curious about the best-view café in Hopo
  • Anyone who wants a photo-of-your-life on a rooftop

Every floor of Choi has a different concept, so one visit felt like going to three cafés🥰 I think the rooftop around sunset would really live up to the name "Sunset Garden" haha🌅 Next time I definitely want to go back around dusk! If Choi isn't on your Yangsan café or Busan-outskirts café list yet, I recommend saving it now~~📌
