Chef Cho, where I picked my birthday cake at Shinsegae Gangnam

This year I chose my birthday cake at Chef Cho (쉐프조), in Sweet Park on B1 of Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam. A birthday just isn't a birthday without a good cake, right? I wanted to do something a little special this year, so I headed to Chef Cho.

I always love a fresh cream cake piled with fruit, and my eyes went wide the second I saw Chef Cho's showcase. It was packed with colorful fruit cakes, from mango to strawberry to Shine Muscat grapes.

The cake with yellow mango spread out like rose petals was so pretty that I fell for it at first sight.

What kind of cake brand is Chef Cho?

Chef Cho is said to be the cake brand of a Korean master pastry chef (제과기능장). It's a shop in Shinsegae Gangnam's Sweet Park that catches your eye with its showy fruit cakes.

From what the shop's display said, they've been studying cakes for a long time. Sweet Park gathers so many famous dessert brands that browsing is half the fun, and Chef Cho's showy fruit cakes stood out most for me.

The showcase had mango cakes, but also a cake with strawberries and mango together, Mont Blanc tarts and all sorts of cake slices. The generous fruit makes them a good fit for birthdays and anniversaries. The packaging box was neat and classy too, so it looked fine as a gift.

Chef Cho Real Mango Rose: price and looks 🥭

What I chose for my birthday cake was the Chef Cho Real Mango Rose No. 1! It cost ₩56,000.

As the name says, the Real Mango Rose is a cake with mango layered into a rose shape, and it's really pretty in person.

Bright yellow mango fans out like petals, with a big chunk of mango in the center. A little rosemary sprig on top and the gold Chef Cho logo added a classy touch.

The sides of the cake are clear, so you can see the layers of mango, fresh cream and sponge. It looks lovely in photos, but the real thing was much brighter. Set on the birthday table, the yellow mango really lifted the mood.

How does the Real Mango Rose taste? A birthday cake the kids loved

The sweet mango and soft fresh cream go together well, and the mango isn't just on top; there's mango inside the cake too. And then it was finally time to eat the birthday cake with the family!

Even before I cut it, the kids were pointing out how much mango there was. We each had a slice, and seeing them say it was delicious made me happy too.

With mango all the way through, anyone who loves fruit cakes should be satisfied. Scooping up moist, soft sponge with cream and mango gave a mouthful of sweetness, and the fruit's freshness kept me going back for more.

Above all, watching the kids enjoy it made me feel I'd chosen well again this year. I'm usually busy making sure the kids get a cake on their birthdays, so spending a sweet time with my family on my own birthday made me really happy. It's not a special event, but I was reminded how precious it is to share one tasty cake together like this.

Would I recommend Chef Cho for a birthday cake in Gangnam?

Chef Cho at Shinsegae Gangnam is in Sweet Park on B1, connected to Express Bus Terminal Station, so it's easy to reach. There's a wide range of cakes to suit your taste, and above all the fruit cakes looked truly impressive.

The Real Mango Rose I picked is worth a look if you love mango. The price isn't low, but it was a charming choice for a birthday or special anniversary.

Today is my birthday. The pretty cake was lovely, but the kids happily eating it and saying how good it was made the day even better.

I hope that next year's birthday will also have us laughing and sharing a tasty cake together like this. ❤️
