Yongin Korean restaurant shabu course with kids: Jangwongap Kalguksu

I visited Jangwongap Kalguksu Yongin Giheung Branch (장원갑칼국수 용인기흥점) with my child over the weekend. I went without a reservation because I was curious about its introduction to a five-course meal in the ₩10,000 range. We had beef brisket and water parsley wrap shabu kalguksu, whole shrimp seafood pajeon, and finished with kkakdugi fried rice.

Was the location and parking convenient with a child?

The restaurant is on the first floor at 90 Gomae-ro, Giheung-gu, Yongin. It is about a three-minute drive from Giheung Outlet, so it was convenient to stop by for a meal after shopping with my child.

There was space for about 40 cars in front of the standalone building, and I parked right away without waiting. The high chair made it easy to sit with my child, and there was also a waiting area and separate restrooms for men and women. The restaurant also indicated that group visits were possible.

What did I order, and how much did it cost?

There was a notice that each person must order one item. I ordered two servings of beef brisket and water parsley wrap shabu kalguksu (knife-cut noodles). I recorded the price at the time as “from ₩16,500.” We also had whole shrimp seafood pajeon (Korean scallion pancake).

How did we eat the beef brisket wraps and shabu kalguksu?

The meal started with Korean beef brisket eaten shabu-shabu style, followed by kalguksu cooked in the remaining broth. We could eat the meat and water parsley together, and dipping the water parsley wrap in sesame oil brought together a nutty flavor and the herb’s aroma.

The broth was rich but not overpowering, so my child could eat it comfortably too. The house-made kalguksu noodles were chewy and springy, and the kimchi we had with them was tasty.

Did my child enjoy the whole shrimp seafood pajeon?

The whole shrimp seafood pajeon was crisp outside and moist inside. It had plenty of shrimp, and my child happily picked out and ate the shrimp.

How were the extra ingredients and finishing fried rice?

I ordered extra mushrooms and water parsley, but there was so much that we ultimately could not finish it all.

The kkakdugi fried rice we ate at the end had a strong perilla oil aroma. My child finished a bowl, and it was memorable enough that I thought about it again after returning home.

What was available at the self-service bar and for dessert?

The self-service bar had kimchi, side dishes, sauces, and aprons, making it easy to take what we needed.

There were also snacks like ppeongtwigi (puffed grain snack), which were good to have as dessert with my child. The misutgaru (multigrain powder drink) had a rich flavor.

There was also a notice that peach bibim mandu had been introduced at the time of my visit. I did not try it this time, but I would like to taste it next time.

On this visit, the parking and high chair made it comfortable to eat with my child. I also liked eating through the meal in order, from meat to kalguksu to fried rice. However, once we ordered the extra ingredients, the amount was too much for us.
