Ansan sashimi restaurant with a seasonal platter: Eochongye 1beonji
In short
Eochongye 1beonji is a sashimi restaurant on Bandal Island in Danwon-gu, Ansan. Two of us ordered the 55,000 won medium seasonal assorted sashimi platter, enjoying yellowtail, fin cuts, and a clean maeuntang stew. A memorable pick for a day when you want plenty of sashimi.

We went for sashimi on Bandal Island in Ansan, and when a ₩55,000 medium seasonal assorted sashimi platter landed in front of us, we both said the same thing: “Is this really for two people?” I’m originally a huge sashimi fan, you see.

The platter was piled with flounder and seasonal fish, and the moment I spotted the fin cuts I love plus yellowtail, I was simply happy hahaha.

But this place wasn’t just generous!! From sashimi with a satisfyingly chewy bite to pieces that melted softly in the mouth, there was a great variety of textures, and even the maeuntang (spicy fish stew) at the end stayed wonderfully clean-tasting.
This is Eochongye 1beonji (어촌계1번지) on Bandal Island in Danwon-gu, Ansan.
A spacious, bright restaurant that had a wait even on a weekday
The day I visited was a weekday.

So honestly, I never expected to wait at a sashimi restaurant on a weekday. But there were quite a lot of customers when we arrived, so we waited before going in. Once inside, I sort of understood why.
There were tables of two quietly eating sashimi, but what stood out were groups having meals or company dinners. The restaurant itself was more spacious than expected, and rather than the old-school sashimi restaurant atmosphere you might imagine, it had white tones and even chandeliers, so it felt quite bright. Even with lots of people, it did not feel as cramped.

Near the entrance, there was a long row of large tanks where you could immediately see fish such as flounder and mullet. Good value plus a symbol of freshness!!!

There was also a separate country-of-origin sign.

And the owner was kind, so we enjoyed our meal from the moment we walked in through the entire visit.
Seasonal assorted sashimi prices and the medium size we ordered
One thing I liked here was the very, very affordable pricing,

and that you could compare sashimi prices right on the menu.
- Seasonal assorted sashimi, mini: ₩35,000
- Seasonal assorted sashimi, small: ₩45,000
- Seasonal assorted sashimi, medium: ₩55,000
- Seasonal assorted sashimi, large: ₩65,000
Along with the seasonal assorted sashimi, flounder, mullet, and salmon were all listed at very friendly prices, and there were tasty fish like rockfish and red sea bream too!!
Seasonal assorted sashimi: flounder + two seasonal fish varieties.
The two of us ordered the medium for ₩55,000. To give you the conclusion first: it was a lot for two people hahaha. Of course, it depends on how much you eat, but by my standards it seemed like enough to share among three people.
Because I love sashimi,, it wasn’t a problem that there was so much—I was just delighted the second the platter arrived. A happy scream ㅠ__ㅠ A ₩55,000 medium seasonal assorted sashimi platter, happiness the moment it comes out. Even in the photo, the platter is almost completely full of sashimi!!

Ice lined the platter, with several types of sashimi neatly arranged by cut.

On the day I ate there, it included yellowtail and fin cuts too. King of good value..
Sashimi with both chewiness and softness
What I liked here was that the sashimi did not all feel like the same texture. Some pieces became pleasantly chewier the more I chewed, while others softened relatively easily in the mouth.
Rather than eating just one type continuously, picking up one piece of this and that made it much more fun. Especially if you love sashimi, you know.

When a platter has different cuts spread across it, it’s so nice to try them one by one, wondering, “What is this one?”.. The drinks go down easily too, and happiness..

Clean flavors from sashimi through maeuntang
And overall, the common thread in the flavors I experienced was cleanliness.

When there is a lot of food, it can start to feel a little heavy toward the end, but even while eating a pretty large amount that day, I kept reaching for more. This is seriously, seriously it... The side dishes were also centered on what you need for sashimi. Before the sashimi came out, they set us up with seaweed soup, perilla leaves, chili peppers, garlic, and dipping sauces.

Rather than laying out an enormous number of side dishes, it was closer to a selection that goes well with sashimi. On a day when I want to eat lots of the main sashimi, I actually prefer this kind of setup.
Our goal that day was clear anyway.
We came to eat sashimi, so we had to eat sashimi hahaha. I tried a piece plain, then with garlic or sauce, then wrapped in a perilla leaf—and despite saying there was so much, it kept disappearing.
Honestly, even if the sashimi is delicious at a sashimi restaurant, the final maeuntang can often be where the meal splits from my taste.

At Eochongye 1beonji, the “cleanliness” I felt lasted right through the end. ㅇㅁㅇ

It came out bubbling red, so at first I thought it would be quite intense, but when I ate it, it did not finish with an overwhelming kick; the broth leaned clean instead.

A spoonful of warm broth after the sashimi felt like exactly the right finish. So I remember this maeuntang here just as much as the sashimi. A place where the flow from sashimi → maeuntang does not break. That was a pretty big plus for me!! Hehehe >ㅁ<
If you go as two, consider the medium portion
If two people go planning to eat a lot like we did, the medium is possible, but for a usual-sized meal, the ₩55,000 medium may be quite generous.

The two of us kept saying it was really a lot. Happily finished it all..

On the other hand, if around three people want to share several kinds of sashimi, a medium like the one I received seems like a very comfortable choice. But the seasonal fish selection can vary by the day you visit, so if there is a particular fish you absolutely want, asking about that day’s selection before ordering is the surest option.
Even though I went on a weekday, there were actually quite a few tables of groups,

and since the restaurant is spacious, it was clear why it is good for groups eating sashimi. Parking is available too, so eat comfortably and take a designated driver home!

I already love sashimi, but that day, the moment the medium platter was placed right on our table, I was simply in a good mood hahaha. After finishing the maeuntang too, I thought knowing a sashimi restaurant like this in Danwon-gu, Ansan was quite a great find. Eat really well, have a great company dinner too, and make lots of wonderful memories at this king-level, super-good-value place!!
