Pyeongchon tuna bar: half platter and free bluefin belly at Chamchiya

In short

Chamchiya is a tuna restaurant near Exit 2 of Pyeongchon Station in Anyang, Gyeonggi. On a Saturday evening, two light drinkers at Chamchiya ordered a half Ilpum platter, jjamppong stew (spicy seafood noodle stew), tempura and rice with one bottle of Byeolbit Cheongha, and were given bluefin tuna belly on the house at the end. The verdict: tuna that would likely cost 80,000–90,000 won in Seoul felt like a 40,000–50,000 won meal, making Chamchiya a great-value tuna spot.

What is Chamchiya near Pyeongchon Station like?

Chamchiya is a tuna restaurant near Pyeongchon Station in Anyang where you can eat good-value tuna sashimi. With autumn arriving I was craving raw fish like crazy, and I heard about a place with great-value tuna, so I went.

It felt like ₩40,000-50,000 for quality tuna that would probably cost ₩80,000-90,000 in Seoul... The owner was so kind, and I loved everything from the basic sides to the freebies, so if anyone asks me for a good place around Indeogwon or Pyeongchon, I'll tell them about Chamchiya! Here's my honest review of Chamchiya near Pyeongchon Station :-)

Introduction photo of Chamchiya, a tuna restaurant near Pyeongchon Station

Raw fish, crab and shrimp are autumn musts!! Tuna sashimi was my first of the year >< Honestly, in Seoul it's so expensive I wouldn't even think of it, but Chamchiya near Pyeongchon Station is amazing value.

Getting to Chamchiya and the atmosphere

Chamchiya is a 3-minute walk from Pyeongchon Station Exit 2, so it's easy to reach. The owners were friendly from the moment we walked in, which put me in a good mood. The inside is very clean and pleasant!

What two people ordered: a half Ilpum platter combo

Every seat has a tablet, so you can browse and choose comfortably. We wanted a good mix of a hot stew and tempura to go with the tuna, so we chose a half Ilpum platter (Ilpum Hanpan, the signature tuna sashimi platter) + jjamppong stew (spicy seafood noodle soup) + squid tempura + rice. A really solid combo •̀ㅅ•́

Chamchiya's basic sides and unlimited seaweed

Generous sides are laid out before the menu items arrive. Of the first ones out, I loved this one. I ate it in one bite, and it's great for waking up your appetite before the meal.

Appetizer side served first at Chamchiya

True to a tuna spot near Pyeongchon Station, the basic sides are huge. The seasoned cucumber is sweet and delicious, and the sashimi salad looked so good I thought it would make a great raw fish rice bowl over rice next time. Fill your empty stomach with the tuna crackers!

Chamchiya also keeps a huge supply of seaweed right beside the table. You can wrap tuna in it endlessly,, we loved the combination so much that we each ate 2 packs haha. A pack doesn't have too much seaweed, so it never feels heavy!

The two sauce slots on your personal plate come pre-filled from the soy sauce and the sesame oil + salt combo next to it.

Chamchiya's half Ilpum platter: what's in it and how does it taste?

The half Ilpum platter comes with two pieces of each cut. The look.. smoke rises from the middle, so it's like food from the Dragon Palace. It made me feel really treated like royalty, which I loved.

Looking at them one by one, every color is dazzling. Good-quality tuna in this lineup.. I admit it, this is a great tuna spot near Pyeongchon Station ㅠ

If you're a light drinker, one bottle of Byeolbit Cheongha

We can't drink much, so we shared one bottle of Byeolbit Cheongha (a clean rice-based sake). We left a bit, but it was crisp and paired well with the tuna.

I slowly ate one piece of each cut, and the quality tuna was rich and delicious.. ㅠㅠ I was so happy the whole time.. It's a taste that makes me want to bring everyone looking for a tuna spot near Pyeongchon Station. Dipping the fish in sesame oil with salt especially brought out the nutty flavor, and I loved it, sob sob

Chamchiya's jjamppong stew: okay for people who can't handle spice?

Even by the standards of someone who can't handle spice, the jjamppong stew was nicely spicy without being a burden. Ta-da, they added udon noodles to the jjamppong stew, making it a hearty, bubbling pot.

Mussels, bean sprouts and udon noodles, the portion is really generous. A tuna place with a delicious jjamppong stew too!

Squid, chili pepper and sweet pumpkin tempura

Chamchiya's tempura: the squid is the best

The tempura had a thin, non-greasy batter, so it was light. The tempura, the last dish, finally arrived, and even though I don't really like fried chili peppers, they were so tasty and light. But for tempura, squid is still the best!!!! The sweet pumpkin tempura was good too. A perfect way to finish.

Finishing with free bluefin belly

Wow, the owner gave us bluefin tuna belly as a free extra. The record-breaking fattiness was almost overwhelming(?), and eating it as sushi felt like an omakase (chef's-choice course) ㅜㅜ We were treated like royalty right to the end.

Thanks to Chamchiya, a tuna restaurant near Pyeongchon Station in Anyang, we wrapped up our Saturday properly. After eating such good-quality raw fish I felt like I'd had a health boost,, if you're looking for a tuna spot near Beomgye or Pyeongchon Station, or need a place for a get-together with friends or family, definitely come to Chamchiya,, thanks to the kind owners we ate well and had a great time ♥♥
