Aewol pork noodle restaurant: mala broth, sweet kimchi, Handam Guksu
In short
Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch is a pork noodle (gogi guksu) restaurant right in front of Handam Beach in Aewol, Jeju. The writer ordered sagol (pork bone broth) noodles, mala pork noodles and handmade pork tteokgalbi (grilled patty), eating them with sweet-tasting Jeju kimchi, and found the mala bowl memorable for the peanut-sauce nuttiness layered over the bone broth. With floor-to-ceiling windows over the Aewol coast and no porky smell in the broth, Handam Guksu suits even diners who are sensitive to it.

I went full tourist mode on this Jeju trip haha!! Pork noodles are basically a required course when you come to Jeju, so I heard there was a famous pork noodle place in Aewol and had to check it out.
Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch

Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch hours and location
Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch is a pork noodle restaurant near Aewol's Handam Beach, open daily 10:00–20:30, with break time 15:30–17:30 and last order at 19:50. It's the perfect spot for a meal after hitting the Aewol cafés and pop-up stores, so I made it my top pick — and apparently it's the most famous pork noodle place in Aewol, so my expectations were at 1000%.
Where to park at Handam Guksu in Aewol
About 3 cars can park in front of the restaurant, and if you park at Aewol Handam Parking Lot (Randy's Donut parking) or Handam Trail Parking Lot, they'll cover 1 hour of parking fees. Just note that Handam Parking Lot 1 and Handam Parking Lot 2 are not covered. You can park in front of the store, but once parked they'll refund 1 hour at a nearby lot — worth knowing if you're visiting!!

The notice at the entrance that stuck with me
I visited right after break time ended and was seriously touched by the notice posted at the entrance~~~ It said that because of the heat wave and the floor-to-ceiling window structure, the inside isn't super cool, but the AC is running at full power and it's not a wait you'd need to sit through for over an hour — such a thoughtful note from the owner that it tugged at my heartstrings ㅠㅠ. You don't see that kind of care often, so I walked in feeling touched for once.

Walking in, the wide-open floor-to-ceiling windows immediately explained why this place is known for its Aewol view. As a spot popular with locals as well as tourists, it was spacious with plenty of tables, which I loved!!
Handam Guksu menu and what we ordered
Here's the menu board!!

I ordered sagol (bone broth) pork noodles, mala pork noodles, and handmade pork tteokgalbi (grilled meat patties)!! I'd seen mala bibim noodles before, but never mala pork noodles, so I was really curious how it would taste haha.

They're also running an event where writing a Naver receipt photo review gets you a free Jeju specialty crunch snack, worth grabbing while you're there!! Besides their signature handmade tteokgalbi, they've collaborated with Namju Food, a local sundae (Korean blood sausage) specialist, so you can try chive and pork sundae!! Sundae lovers should definitely order this.

Self-serve corner and the Handam Beach window seats
At the self-serve corner, I found hair ties, kids' tableware, and extra side dishes, so I grabbed some more banchan (side dishes) haha.

While waiting for the food, I looked out the window and got a full view of Handam Beach — such a nice bonus. Scenery under cool AC air is always the best.

How the sagol pork noodles taste with sweet Jeju kimchi
The food arrived. Portions looked generous, true to an Aewol hotspot, and the visuals had me drooling with anticipation. Check out the sagol pork noodles — that milky bone broth alone looks like it'll cure a hangover haha. Big portion too, let's dig in!

The broth was refreshing and savory with a clean finish, which was satisfying after all the greasy black pork and burger I'd eaten before.

It had meat, bean sprouts, and scallions on a sagol bone broth base.

Eating it with the kimchi was an insane combo~~~ Maybe it's a Jeju kimchi thing, but even though it was heavily seasoned, it had a sweetness to it, and paired with the noodles, the refreshing flavor really came alive!!
What do the mala pork noodles taste like?
Finally met the mala pork noodles I'd been waiting for!! There was genuinely both a bone broth aroma and a mala aroma, which felt authentic. And they seem to have added a peanut sauce that tones down the spiciness a bit — this place could rebrand as a mala tang specialist and it would still work haha!

Since the mala tang is also on a bone broth base, coming from a pork noodle specialist really shows in the depth of flavor.

Being a noodle dish, it also had chives, bean sprouts, and scallions, which brought it closer to the mala pork noodle profile haha. Each bowl came loaded with meat, so the noodles and meat just kept coming no matter how much we ate.

Handmade pork tteokgalbi at Handam Guksu
We also had the handmade pork tteokgalbi on the side.

Being handmade, it was tender with no meaty smell at all! Great with kimchi, and the seasoning was spot on enough to work as a side dish even if you're dining with kids — I ended up eating way too much haha.
Handam Guksu sits right in front of Aewol's Handam Beach, serving approachable Jeju pork noodles at reasonable prices, with a pleasant interior and, unlike many pork noodle and toryeom gukbap places, no distinct pork smell — so it's a great pick for anyone who's sensitive to smells. Recommended!
