Thick-cut sashimi takeout at a Jeju night market: Dutumhoe
In short
Dutumhoe Dongmun Market Main Branch is a sashimi takeout shop inside the night market at Gate 8 of Dongmun Market in Jeju. The writer stopped by in the late afternoon after class and packed mixed sashimi, sushi, and coconut fried shrimp, and when she mentioned the 40-minute walk home, the staff added an ice pack. True to its name, the cuts at Dutumhoe are thick, so it suits anyone who prefers a chewy bite over thin slices.

On days when class runs until late afternoon, there's really not much time left to cook dinner once I get home. So I end up ordering delivery or takeout a lot, and since this class was near Jeju's Dongmun Market (동문시장), I thought, "Why not grab some sashimi to take home today?" and stopped by the market!
I already love the food at Dongmun Market, and this time I went to Dutumhoe, famous for sashimi takeout there.

Once I tasted it, the sashimi really was thick, just like the name says, so I wanted to leave a review haha 😉
Where is Dutumhoe Dongmun Market Main Branch, and where do you park?
Dutumhoe Dongmun Market Main Branch is at 16 Gwandeok-ro 14-gil, Jeju-si, right at the start of the food alley that leads in from Gate 8 of Dongmun Market. It's open daily 11:30–21:00, but it can close earlier once the ingredients run out.
Walking in through Gate 8, the food alley starts right away, and the blue sign is visible right at the entrance, so it's easy to find!
I parked at the Dongmun Market public parking lot, which was more convenient than I expected. A short walk from the parking lot gets you right into the market, so it's an easy stop even if you're only there for takeout.

Even though it was a weekday, there were so many people. I guess this is one of those places everyone stops by at least once when visiting Jeju. I love the lively atmosphere unique to traditional markets, plus it's fun to look around, so I'm pretty into visiting markets!

Walking along, the blue sign of Dutumhoe really caught my eye! Easy to spot even from a distance.
The shop is open-style, so you can see right inside, and overall it felt clean. Hygiene is the thing I worry about most at a sashimi place, but the display was tidy and well kept, so I could shop with more peace of mind!

What sells out at Dutumhoe in the late afternoon
The showcase at Dutumhoe had all kinds of sashimi and sushi nicely displayed, and it really did look delicious~ But since I went in the late afternoon, a lot of items were already sold out. I was starving after class so it was tough picking the whole time haha. So disappointing, and honestly kind of a bummer not being able to try everything haha.

The owner said they only sell sashimi prepared that same day, which made me even more eager to get home and try it. I was so excited to see how good it would be~~

They had sushi, sashimi, and even futomaki (thick rolled sushi), so there were plenty of options even for people who can't eat raw fish. After much deliberation, I packed mixed sashimi, sushi, and coconut fried shrimp!

A 40-minute walk home: the ice pack Dutumhoe packs for you
When I mentioned it would take about 40 minutes to walk home, they carefully tucked in an ice pack. Little touches like that really do make you feel good.
There were live fish in a tank out front too, which added to the sense of freshness,

and the origin of every item was clearly labeled, which put me even more at ease!
Opening the Dutumhoe takeout box at home

I opened the package as soon as I got home, and the packaging was really neat. The sashimi wasn't shifted or squished at all, so it looked great too!

They packed the vinegar-gochujang sauce, soy sauce, and wasabi along with the sashimi — didn't miss a thing. You can see the little soy sauce dish there haha. Perfect for taking straight down to the beach to eat, don't you think?!

How the mixed sashimi, sushi, and coconut shrimp taste
The first thing that caught my eye was the thickness of the sashimi. The name "Dutumhoe" (thick sashimi) wasn't for nothing. It had salmon, flatfish, red seabream, and croaker, each with a lively texture and a nutty flavor that came through more the more I chewed. I personally prefer sashimi with some thickness to it over thin slices, and this was exactly my style!

The sushi exceeded expectations too — it wasn't the kind with thin fish and a huge mound of rice, but had a generous amount of fish on top, which was satisfying with every bite, and the rice seasoning wasn't too strong, so it paired well with the fish! My son devoured the salmon sushi the moment he saw it, so I didn't even get to taste it haha. Bummer 😅

The coconut shrimp was crunchy on the outside and firm and juicy on the inside — really tasty~ This was my daughter's top pick :)
Who should order takeout from Dutumhoe?
If you're near the airport trying to decide on your last meal in Jeju, getting sashimi takeout from Dongmun Market seems like a really good choice!!! It's easy to eat simply back at your accommodation, and convenient to stop by before returning a rental car. It was also a very satisfying option for anyone like me who just wants to eat comfortably at home!
If you like thick-cut sashimi, this is a place worth visiting at least once! I think I'll probably go again in a few days with my sashimi-loving son at home. I'm sure we'll be just as satisfied and loading up the bag again then too?! 😆
