Have you changed your wipers but the glass still looks hazy?
Even though I wash my car regularly, the rear window looked hazy when it rained or when I drove at night, making it hard to see clearly. The smearing remained even after I replaced the wipers, so I looked into removing oil film and tried AutoGrooming AutoGrooming windshield oil film remover.
What towel came with the product?
AutoGrooming AutoGrooming windshield oil film remover arrived neatly packaged with a work towel. At the time I wrote the original post, in February 2026, SmartStore was running a buy-two-get-one promotion.
When I opened the individually wrapped pouch, the oil film remover was rolled up in a sky-blue towel. The sky-blue bottle was the redesigned version, and when I used it myself, it was easy to control the amount. I also thought it looked like it would last for several uses.
The included work towel was thick, with different materials on each side. After rubbing with it myself, I found it useful for wiping away oil film and grime.
How did I use it at the self-service car wash?
The directions were to remove grime from the glass first, put a suitable amount on the included towel, rub in straight lines 4–5 times, then rinse with water or a pressure washer. They explained that the product settling evenly onto the glass was the sign that the oil film had been removed.
I went to the car wash and gave the car a light wash first to clean the glass surface. The product was a thin white formula, and its long, narrow nozzle made it easy to dispense just the amount I needed.
After applying the oil film remover and lightly rubbing it with the towel, marks that looked like stains appeared on the glass.
I put a small amount directly onto the glass and wiped repeatedly with the towel 5–6 times. The marks that had looked like water spots gradually faded the more I rubbed. Once I had applied it evenly, I rinsed it with water to finish the job.
How were the glare and wiper noise afterward?
Once I finished, the glass noticeably felt clearer than before. The noise I used to hear when the wipers ran had almost disappeared, and I felt that light glare was reduced when driving at night in the rain. Since it was just a matter of rubbing with the towel a few times while washing the car, it did not feel like a particularly difficult job for me.
I heard that after removing oil film, the glass becomes hydrophilic, so water spreads broadly across it, and that you can add a water-repellent coating afterward. The changes I experienced this time were clearer glass, less noise, and less glare after using the oil film remover.
