Cool Gangnam Station café after two escape rooms: Upper and Under

I hadn't been to Gangnam in a while, and I went and crushed not one but two escape rooms haha... Maybe because I used my brain so much, I was craving a cold drink, so I went looking for a good café near Gangnam Station!

The café has a big tree and a really fresh, refreshing vibe?? But dessert is what matters to me, and oh my goodness~~~ they sell pretty much every dessert there is, lol. Even figs, which I love~~ So I headed straight over: Upper and Under, a café near Gangnam Station! Conclusion first: highly, highly recommended-★

Where is Upper and Under, and what are the hours and parking?

Upper and Under is at 28 Gangnam-daero 102-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and uses the basement, 1st and 2nd floors. It's open daily 11:00-22:00. There's no parking, so I recommend the Yeoksam Cultural Park public parking lot. The restroom is inside the café, separate for men and women.

What are the exterior and atmosphere like?

The entrance of Upper and Under, the Gangnam Station café, is made of brick! And there were sooo many customers, more than at other cafés!! Well... a café with a great vibe can't help but be popular. Even just walking past, it looks this nice;;

There was a huge tree right next to it, and since it was autumn, the tree was lush and green with fruit hanging on it, so it looked so pretty in photos?? Lots of foreign visitors were taking pictures in front of this tree, and the interior is clean and nice, so people were taking lots of photos inside too : )

What should you order from the drink menu?

Here's the Upper and Under menu~ There was a wide variety of drinks~ There's also an English menu so it's easy for foreign visitors to read.

I heard Upper and Under is famous for its lattes! So I wondered which latte to order... and then! I picked an Einspänner (coffee topped with thick cream) for the first time in a while~♪

What desserts does Upper and Under have?

Upper and Under has so many desserts: cakes, baked goods like financiers, madeleines and canelés, pies, even Basque cheesecake. And of course you have to order bread too!! There were lots of cakes, and lots of baked goods in different types and flavors.

Wow... look at this sweet potato mattang (candied sweet potato) financier;; Can you see that coating that looks like it'll crack right open...

They had pies too, including a fig pie, and especially so many kinds of canelé that choosing one was a real struggle.

In the fridge corner there were cheesecakes too, Basque cheesecakes in vanilla and Oreo chocolate : )

Seating: why I picked the air-conditioned 2nd floor

Upper and Under counts as a large café even among Gangnam Station cafés, with varied seating on every floor. That day I was wiped out from the heat, so I sat on the 2nd floor, where the AC was blasting.

Even among Gangnam Station cafés, Upper and Under is one of the big ones, and the seating comes in a real variety~

The 1st floor has lots of seats too, so there were plenty of choices. I arrived super hot and wanted somewhere cool, and the 2nd floor had the AC cranked up (power cooling even though it was October, ㅠㅠ so good), so I chose the 2nd floor.

Also, the weather that day was on and off with rain, so it was really humid outside ㅠㅠ I wanted to sit on the outdoor terrace too, but it was just too humid, so I'll enjoy it next time!

How does ordering work at Upper and Under?

When your order is ready, a vibrating pager goes off and you pick it up yourself!

Especially since I was so overheated that day, the drink looked so refreshing I felt cooler before even tasting it haha

How do the raspberry cake and Earl Grey canelé taste?

The Upper and Under raspberry cake (₩8,500) has raspberries on top and raspberry throughout the cream. The Earl Grey canelé (₩4,500) was moist inside with a strong Earl Grey flavor.

Raspberries sat on top, and there was raspberry all through the cream too. So no matter where you bite, you keep getting that pop of texture, which I loved.

The canelé was really moist inside, and since I ordered the Earl Grey flavor, it was generously filled with Earl Grey cream and had a strong flavor! Highly recommended if you like Earl Grey!

How is the cream on the Upper and Under Einspänner?

The Upper and Under Einspänner (₩8,000) has such dense cream that at first I couldn't even suck the drink through the straw. Seriously, the cream was so dense lol I couldn't get the drink up the straw, and it surprised me!

So when I scooped up the cream, it didn't collapse at all and came up thick and heavy, can you see it~~?? If you like cream, there are plenty of other lattes topped with cream besides the Einspänner, so lots of choices, pick whatever suits you : )

Who I'd recommend Upper and Under to

If you're looking near Gangnam Station for a large café, a café with a nice atmosphere, or one with an outdoor terrace where you can enjoy the view~?? I highly recommend Upper and Under, very close to Gangnam's main street : )

I'm a bit of a bread lover myself, and with this many kinds of bread, as long as you don't go too late in the afternoon, you should be able to see the full variety-♥
