Takeout pizza and chicken lunch near Hwagok Station: Pizza Meokda

I was recently looking for somewhere to grab a simple but filling lunch, and ended up at Pizza Meokda Hwagok Branch (피자먹다 화곡점), right in front of Hwagok Station.

Pizza Meokda Hwagok Branch has lots of good-value options, with pizza, chicken and fries all in one place, so it works for a solo meal, a quick bite or a snack. Here's my review after trying it myself.

Pizza Meokda Hwagok Branch is about a 1-minute walk from Exit 6 of Hwagok Station, at 160 Hwagok-ro, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, on the 1st floor. It's open 11:00–23:00.

Walking past, you'll notice the eye-catching sign with the phrase "EAT PIZZA WITH CHICKEN". Just like the name says, it's a place where you can enjoy pizza and chicken together.

How much does Pizza Meokda Hwagok Branch cost?

At Pizza Meokda Hwagok Branch, you can have a solid pizza meal in the ₩5,000 range. The price was the most surprising part for me.

You order easily at a kiosk, and the cooking time isn't long either, so it's great for a quick meal.

This time I ordered the following for takeout from Pizza Meokda Hwagok Branch.

With pizza and chicken together, it was more than enough for a filling lunch.

How does the Golden Sweet Bulgogi Pizza taste?

The Golden Sweet Bulgogi Pizza is a sweet-and-salty pizza with bulgogi (marinated beef) topping and cheddar cheese, and it was the first one I tried.

The bulgogi topping is generous, and with the cheddar the balance of sweet and salty was really good.

From the first bite, I could taste the bulgogi flavor and the richness of the cheese at the same time, and it's the kind of taste anyone, young or old, would like. The sweet sauce isn't overdone, so I kept reaching for another slice.

Cheese lovers, try the Premium Westin Pizza

The Premium Westin Pizza is topped with three cheeses (Emmental, Gouda and mozzarella), plus bacon and Westin sauce, and it was the best dish of the day.

It's loaded with Emmental, Gouda and mozzarella, and with the bacon and Westin sauce added, the flavor was really good.

It felt like being buried in cheese, with a rich cheesy aroma and a soft texture that won me over.

I took it out and ate it at the office, and the cheese flavor still held up, so I was very satisfied. If you like cheese, I definitely recommend trying it.

Crispy chicken, 4 pieces

The 4 pieces of Crispy Chicken at Pizza Meokda Hwagok Branch were classic-style chicken, crispy outside and juicy inside. I thought only the pizza would be good, but the chicken was better than I expected.

The coating isn't too thick, so it didn't feel heavy, and I really liked the crunch with every bite.

Is Pizza Meokda Hwagok Branch good for eating alone?

The inside of Pizza Meokda Hwagok Branch was kept clean and there was plenty of seating. It has an atmosphere where you can come alone without feeling awkward.

With plenty of seats, coming alone is no problem at all, and it's also a nice atmosphere for visiting with friends or family.

I especially recommend it to people who find a whole pizza too much when eating alone.

Overall verdict

Pizza Meokda Hwagok Branch was a great-value spot near Hwagok Station where you can enjoy pizza and chicken together at a reasonable price.

The Golden Sweet Bulgogi Pizza I tried this time had a great combination of sweet bulgogi and cheese, and the Premium Westin Pizza really let me feel the appeal of rich cheese. With the crispy chicken added, it was more than enough for a meal.

If you're looking for a good solo meal or a good-value lunch near Hwagok Station, I recommend visiting Pizza Meokda Hwagok Branch. It makes for a filling meal that I think students and office workers alike would be happy with.
